Vicki Demakas
March 27, 1931 - September 12, 2022
Vicki Christine Demakas (nee George) was born on March 27, 1931 in San Francisco, CA to Peter and Angie George, and was one of 2 siblings: Maraki Vlasis (nee George) (d. 2021); She grew up in the Richmond District in San Francisco and graduated from Washington High School followed by her teaching degree at City College of San Francisco. She met her soon-to-be husband, Nick, at City College and then they married in 1953, living in Westlake in Daly City and then moving to the sunshine in Belmont in 1979.
She died peacefully on February 12, 2022 in Millbrae, CA. She was predeceased by her husband, Nick (1998) after 45 years of marriage.
She is survived by her two children, George P. Demakas and Gail Demakas O'Brien, her son-in-law, Mike, and her four much-loved and totally adored grandchildren, Nicholas Demakas (Rae), Andrea Wheatley (Simon); Bri O'Brien and Cali O'Brien. She is also survived by her loving Godsons, nephews, nieces, cousins and way too many dear friends to list here.
Vicki was a talented educator, and worked at Lakeshore Elementary School for over 30 years. She was a favorite teacher at Lakeshore and many parents were sad when she retired. She was a firm educator, but fair and compassionate. She also coached a mean game of kickball. Up until her late 80's, she was very active with the Philoptochos women's group at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross in Belmont, organizing and running the Agora with great success for many years (an exhausting task she loved). She loved to play Bridge and Poker and every Friday she and her dear friends would get together for lunch.
Mom's motto: "Life is what you make it."
We can't forget to mention the River Rats. Vicki's family went up to their house in Russian River every summer from the day after school ended through Labor Day. She would have great adventures during the summers in Russian River with her many cousins and friends (mostly causing trouble).
The Trisagion will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Chapel of the Highlands in Millbrae, CA and the funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022 to be held at Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross in Belmont, CA. The interment service will be held after the luncheon at Greek Orthodox Memorial Park in Colma where Vicki will be buried alongside her husband, Nick.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross at 900 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont, CA 94002.
Our family wishes to thank Sutter Health Hospice and her wonderful, loving caregivers, Janeath and Margie (Steadfast Care) as well as everyone at The Magnolia of Millbrae for their love and devotion to our mom.

Im very sad to learn of Vicki's passing. Vicki & Nick were very special to my family - we lived next door for 14+ years. Gregory, my son, used to watch Frisky when your parents traveled. I just found out of her passing.
Its with a heavy heart I write this. I thank her for the years of kindness and special memories to my family. She shared many special occasions with us from First communion to college graduation.
Our deepest synpathy

George and Gail:
George was my very first Best Friend growing up on Parkwood Drive in Westlake. When ALL the kids on the block went off to school, I remember Vickie telling us "Next Year, you two".
I loved playing at your house with your Mom and Dad and your German Shepard.
Your Mom was the "younger mom" on the block how fortunate you are to have had her with you for all these years.
I know my mom and brother were good friends with Vicki and I just remember loving her as my 2nd mom back then.
You two and your mom are in my thoughts today.....
Love to you both!

Although I live in southern California, I still have many connections up north. I was saddened to hear of Mrs. Demakas's passing. She was truly one of the last surviving Westlake moms from the 1960s. I remember being an occasional baby sitter for "Geordie" and Gail on Parkwood Drive. In fact, it was Mrs. Demakas who inspired me to go into teaching after graduating from college, which I have now been doing since 1971. My most sincere condolences to her entire family. Mrs. Demakas was truly a classy lady.

We were all so very sad to hear the news that the beautiful & lovely Vicki has left us. She always made me laugh when we'd talk by phone or when I'd stop by to visit. I told her she made made me think of my Mom; she seemed to be pleased by this thought. She was so full of life & so dearly loved her kids & grandchildren. They were truly the focus of her joy. Whenever I thought, and will think in the future, of Vicki it gives me a warm & comforting felling as well as a big smile, thank you Vicki for being a dear & treasured friend. You will be missed by us all.

Will miss Viki as we both taught at Lakeshore for many years and kept in touch after retirement. One of her many amazing qualities was her sense of humor that always made me laugh .

Sending our sincere condolences to all the family. I have special memories of my visits to her Sister in Millbrae & The Magnolia´s in recent years. I loved all the happier times when my family would stay in Theo Steve´s Russian River home & we would spend cherished times with Vicki & all the family. May her memory be eternal. Vicki was my 2nd grade teacher at Lakeshore Elementary School. Vicki was always so kind and she kind if took me under her wings. She even had me over for lunch at her home. When I got married and moved to Westlake I would run into Vicki at the Grocery store. I saw her a couple of years ago at a dear friend's Funeral service. We reminisced about some great memories. Vicki was lovely lady. My condolences to your Family.
