On Monday, the 3rd of October 2022, Doris Jean Nantz, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was 91 years of age.

Born on the 24th of March 1931, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Doris enjoyed nothing more than being with her family and traveling the world.

She was preceded in death by her late parents, Bronze Holland Trull and Lula Belle Trull; her brother, Bronze Trull; and her husband of 56 years, James William Nantz, Jr.

Mrs. Nantz is survived by her daughter, Nancy Jean Hockaday and her husband Donald of Houston, Texas; her son, James William Nantz, III and his wife Courtney of Nashville, Tennessee; and grandchildren, Caroline Nantz and her fiancé LT Andrew Delaney, USN, Holton Hockaday, Finley Nantz and Jameson Nantz. She is also survived by two sisters, Florence Entrekin and Barbara Wells of Houston, Texas; and by brother-in-law, Kenneth Nantz of Kings Mountain, North Carolina. She also adored being Aunt Doris to her fifteen nieces and nephews.

A proud graduate of Harding High School in Charlotte, Doris was named ""Miss Charlotte"" before catching the eye of her future husband Jim, a handsome athletic man from nearby Mount Holly. They were married in Charlotte on the 23rd of November 1951, and soon had two children.

They followed Jim's professional career in the shipping industry, which took them to homes in New Orleans, Moraga, California, Colts Neck, New Jersey, and Houston, making many friends along the way.

In her later years, Doris enjoyed her many friends at Royal Oaks Country Club where she was the first resident of the community and became known as ""the belle of the ball"" and ""life of the party."" She was also a proud member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church since 1977.

Doris will be forever remembered for her lively spirit and positive outlook on life. She never had a bad day and was always more concerned with everyone else's well-being than her own. Her children knew her as the greatest mother and grandmother anyone could ever have.

Friends are cordially invited to a gathering of family and friends at two o'clock this afternoon, Thursday, the 6th of October, in the parlor and Republic Wine Room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the funeral service will follow at three o'clock in the adjacent Jasek Chapel.

At a later date, the family will gather for a private interment at The Old Town Mount Holly Cemetery in Mount Holly, North Carolina.
