William Nance Obituary

William (Bill) Bonham Nance, Jr., M.D., 75, was born June 11, 1947 in Salina, Kansas and passed from this life on December 15, 2022 at North Central Baptist Hospital with his devoted wife Rachel by his side.
Bill Graduated from SMU in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, where he was a member of the swim team. In 1973, he completed his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Bill began his lifelong career in Emergency Medicine at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX. After 20 years, he moved from the city to the country and began working as the Director of the Emergency Department at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX while living his dream life on his farm near Whitesboro Texas. Retiring from EmCare, he moved to Spring Branch, TX where he began working in the Baptist Hospital Health System in San Antonio, TX from which he finally retired in 2017, having worked in Emergency Medicine for 43 years.
A highlight of his medical career was volunteering as the event medical director for the Grand Prix of Dallas every year they were in town. He was a member of Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP) and was certified with the American Board of Emergency Medicine for over 30 years, being one of the earliest physicians to achieve this certification.
Bill loved science, being outdoors and to be surrounded by nature. In his earlier year, favorite activities were swimming, running, hiking, riding motorcycles, snow skiing, photography, earning a black belt in karate, and he even participated in triathlons. Later in life, he enjoyed hiking, traveling, rock climbing, fishing, and camping at the Texas coast. He was certified in scuba diving.
His biggest outdoor hobby was building "The Farm" taking 200 acres and turning it into a family playground full of stocked fishing ponds, a pool, sand volleyball, trails and their cozy home hand selecting each rock. Bill enjoyed shooting his guns when he was at the farm, bird watching, and star gazing. He enjoyed hosting family get-togethers where he could always barbeque his favorite brisket, have the best fireworks show and finish the night in song with his guitar by campfire. Bill loved music and taught himself how to play guitar; later taking guitar lessons from Mike Brill, who became his closest friend, adventure buddy and neighbor in Colorado. Bill was the happiest when he was outdoors and active.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years Rachel and his lap partner JoJo. Brother Jim and Jeanne Nance; Sister Martha and Sam Murch; Sister-in-laws; Aggie Mejia, JoAnn and Chris Noe. Nieces and Nephews; Amy and Thomas Mitchell, Chuck and Pam Nance, Kim Mejia and Jason Sevilla. Bill Treloar, Keith Mejia, Jordan and Denise Noe, Christian and Johanna Noe. Great nieces and nephews; Hunter and Haley Mitchell, Logan Trelor, Ben, Nick, and Lauren Nance, AJ Spinks, Olivia and Molly Mejia; an uncle, and several aunts and cousins.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother Corene Reaves Nance, father William Bonham Nance, Sr., and brother Kelcie Travis Nance.
Bill was loving and generous and he will be missed deeply by his family.

I worked with Bill for 15 years at Baylor ED and he was an excellent physician and great person. He certainly loved life and his precious wife, Rachel. Missing good people is our gift and our promise is that we join them when it´s our time.
Love you Rachel

I just learned of Bill's passing. Bill and I worked together for many years at Baylor and while he was with EmCare.
I have many fond memories of his wit and wisdom.
