Mary Joan Augustus, 95, a longtime resident of Stamford, CT, died peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at the Dolphin Pointe Health Care Center in Jacksonville, Florida.
Born in Stamford, CT August 9, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Patsy and Marion Gasparini Casolo. Mary graduated from Stamford High School and married Anthony "Tony" J. Augustus, the love of her life, in September 1950.
Mary began her working life at Johns Manville Corporation in New York. For most of her career, she worked as an executive assistant at US Chemicals, located in Connecticut. For over 25 years, she was a dedicated employee to the owners of the company and considered them and her co-workers as her extended family. In addition to being a loving wife, dedicated mother to her two children and a wonderful grandmother to six grandchildren, Mary loved gardening, was an avid swimmer and, by most accounts, made the best Italian meatballs and sauce on the planet.
Mary is survived by her two sons, Donald Anthony Augustus of Stamford, CT and Richard John Augustus and his wife Sarah of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and their six grandchildren, Katherine Augustus and her husband, Neil Khare, of Chicago, IL, Andrew Augustus of New York, NY, Elizabeth Augustus of Raleigh, NC, Alexander Augustus, of Jacksonville, FL, David Minor and Lauren Minor of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Also surviving is brother John Casolo of Waterbury, CT. Mary was predeceased by her husband Tony and her sister Florence L. Lynch of New Canaan, CT.
A Catholic memorial mass will be held in her honor on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien CT 06820. Interment will follow at St. John's RC Cemetery, Darien. No calling hours will be held. A celebration of life will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association.
