Charles Staro Obituary

Staro, Charles
ESTERO, Fla. - Charles "Chuck" Michael Staro passed away peacefully at home on January 5, 2023, with Susan Gardner, his beloved partner of 25 years, by his side.
Born in Pittsfield Mass. on November 12, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles B. and Ella (Santucci) Staro. The family moved to Troy where he graduated from Troy High prior to attending the University of Denver. He began his 41 year career with N.Y.S. Association of Realtors in 1966 where he was Executive Vice President and then CEO. Considered a mentor and friend by countless real estate professionals both in N.Y.S as well as nationwide he was the 2003 recipient of the prestigious William R. Magel Award of Excellence from the National Association of Realtors. He also served on a number of professional boards including Evergreen Bank, Fort Orange Club, and Capital Mutual Insurance.
Chuck was the loving father of Sara S. (Matthew) Best of Cape Elizabeth Maine and Chad M. Staro (Jana) of West Wardsboro Vt. He adored his bonus daughters, Leah Gardner (Dann) of Westford, Mass. and Maureen Townsend (Jason) of Schenectady. He was the most proud grandfather of Ryan Nolan of Salt Lake City, Utah, Caitlin, Elizabeth and Charlie Staro of West Wardsboro, Vt., Millie Best of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Ethan Townsend of Schenectady. He was the brother of Irma (Howard) Magee; and uncle of Sean Magee and Erin Magee. He is also remembered by many other relatives and friends.
While his professional life was extremely important to him, just as significant was time spent with family and friends participating in activities he loved. A collegiate hockey player and ski instructor, he passed on his passion for these, and many other sports and activities, to his children, grandchildren, and friends. In addition to continuing his love of the ski slopes Chuck found immense joy on the golf course and water, first in the Adirondacks on Loon Lake boating and water skiing and later on the ocean and coastal Rhode Island. If it weren't for the latter and the affectionally named "boat people", he would not have met his favorite pastime, Susan. With Susan by his side, and she by his, the wine was sweeter, the travel plentiful, and laughter immeasurable.
Per his wishes there will be no formal service but the family welcomes all who knew and adored him to toast to his wit, intellect and zest for life in their own way.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations in Chuck's memory to: Hope Hospice 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers FL 33908 or Maine Cancer Foundation 170 US Rte 1, Suite 250 Falmouth, ME 04105.

For those of you who knew Chuck, I don't have to tell you what an amazing person he was. An accomplished leader of a huge, important organization, But yet, open to all, never arrogant, a fun loving guy, a good friend, with an unbelievable sharing personality. I am honored, that I was among his "boat people" and Yes, the term was lovingly accepted. Space forbids me from carrying on about all the escapades Susan, Chuck, and I and my late wife enjoyed together, but one thing I will tell you is, that Chuck was a mentor and great example to me, of how to live a satisfying life. Sunny skies and smooth seas to you, my boat person !!!

Chuck will long be remembered for his support of the Realtor community. As for me, I will long remember his support, kindness, humor and wit.
When I met you, I knew he had found the right person for him and I´m so happy you and Chuck enjoyed these many years together.
Wishing you peace and lovely memories that will help you get through this tough time.
