David V. Schneider

1956 - 2023

David was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 16, 1956, to Nancy and Vernon Schneider. He went to his eternal home on January 7, 2023, after living with pancreatic cancer for seven months. David grew up in a traditional Christian family where faith in God, hard work and service to others was important. Regular attendance at church and Sunday School was a must. David's father obtained his Doctorate when the children were very young after serving in the Navy. His parents' faith and dedication to serving others was a significant influence throughout his life. As the son of a university professor, David and his family moved often and all over the country. David lived in Iowa, Indiana, Oregon, Wisconsin, California, Virginia, and finally Texas. David was a dedicated student with strong analytical skills and was fortunate to attend many excellent schools. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1972.

David attended the University of Texas at Austin and was part of the Plan II pre-law program. He knew from a very young age that he wanted to be a lawyer. He went on to earn his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center. He sold books and Bibles door to door in the summers during college which was the hardest job he ever had.

David met the love of his life Cindy at UT Austin in 1975 and they have had a loving and joyful relationship since that time. David and Cindy are blessed to have three wonderful children and they remain close to all of them and their four grandchildren.

David began his legal career in Houston but then made the decision to join the family oil and gas business, Olsen Energy Inc., as Vice President. He spent a career buying and selling oil and gas wells and helping the working and royalty interest owners. The oil business is always up and down, but with some hard work and a lot of luck, David and his family prospered in the business.

David was a very generous and service oriented person and a strong leader. He was a long time member of Coker United Methodist Church and served in many roles including Trustee and Finance Chair. He served as a Stephen Minister at Coker for twenty years providing Christian care to church members during times of need. He was a Trustee of the Coker Cemetery Association and a Director of his neighborhood HOA. David served on the Board of the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center Foundation including serving as Board Chairs with Cindy in 2019. He was also very active in the San Antonio Association of Petroleum Landmen and served in many roles including President.

David loved to travel and was fortunate to be able to take many wonderful trips with Cindy and his family and friends, both in the United States and all over the world. European trips were his favorite, particularly Scotland and the Baltics. David enjoyed landscaping and gardening, never afraid to get his hands dirty. He was also passionate about the arts, culture, history, and music. He enjoyed collecting art of all kinds and was particularly fond of western art. David was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching and playing sports. He played tennis and golf as an adult and enjoyed coaching many seasons of various sports for his children. He played the trumpet and the French horn in his youth and often played TAPS at Boy Scout meetings and campouts.

David was a kind and loving husband to Cindy and was dearly loved by his children and grandchildren. He set an example of integrity, kindness, and faith in God to everyone who knew him. True to his Dutch and German roots, he was a hard-working and mostly serious guy, but occasionally his dry sense of humor would shine through. He hoped that he has been an inspiration to all of the people who loved him and looked up to him.

David is survived by Cindy, his wife of forty-four years, his three children, Diana Rendon (Ray), Kristen Schneider Boerger (Jonathan), and David Schneider (Yvonne). He leaves four beautiful grandchildren, Ava and Levi Rendon and Weston and Emmaline Boerger. He is also survived by his mother Nancy and three brothers Kirk, Mark, and Jon Schneider.

The family would also like to thank Dr. Sukeshi Arora and Dr. Hoan Pho for the excellent care provided to David.

A memorial service celebrating David's life will be held at Coker United Methodist Church, 231 E. North Loop Road in San Antonio on Saturday, January 21st at 10:30 a.m. following a private family burial at Coker Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kirk Schneider, Mark Schneider, Jon Schneider, David Schneider, Rusty Olsen, Ray Rendon, Jonathan Boerger, and Art Bennert. Honorary pallbearers from David's Coker Emmaus group include John St Germain, Emory Jones, David Anderson, Mike Tinnon, Tom Ellison, Phil Jackson, Tom Peyton, Tom Canavera, Gaylord Reaves, Dave Hamann, Dean Fleming, and Charles Mims. A celebration of life reception will be held at the Briscoe Museum of Western Art on 210 W Market Street in downtown San Antonio on Sunday, January 22nd from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make a charitable contribution in David's honor may consider one of the organizations he was passionate about during his life, including Coker Cemetery Association, The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center Foundation, the Briscoe Museum of Western Art, Coker United Methodist Church, or Mays Cancer Center.
