Johnny Rafael Vasquez Sr. entered into the restful peace of our Lord on January 19, 2023 at the age of 81 years surrounded by family. Johnny was born in Gregory Portland, Texas on December 1, 1941 to Manuela Herrera Vasquez and Jose Maria Vasquez Barrera; he was the eldest son of this union.
Johnny was an avid reader especially enjoyed reading westerns and anything about history. He found history fascinating and liked to share that love with anyone willing to listen. He loved traveling and experiencing new cities and sights. Johnny met Oralia Galaviz in San Antonio, then the two married on June 14, 1999. Johnny will be remembered for his sense of humor and being a devoted family man. He was a wonderful husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather.
Johnny will be joined eternally with his parents, Manuela and Jose Maria Vasquez; brothers, Jimmy Vasquez, Jose A. Vasquez, Salvador Vasquez, Ernesto Vasquez, Fernando Vasquez, Daniel Vasquez and sister, Mary "Mercy" Stone.
Johnny's memory will forever live on through his wife of 23 years, Oralia Galaviz Vasquez of San Antonio; Sister, Alice (Richard) Arizmendez of Houston; his children Ruth (Roy) Gonzales, Irene (John) Buchholz, Johnny Rafael Vasquez Jr. of Corpus Christi; Step-Children, Javier (Norma) Moreno, Juan (Maria) Moreno, Marco A. (Adela) Moreno, Hidalia (Robert) Resendiz and Jesus Moreno of San Antonio, along with 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A visitation for Johnny will be held Friday, February 10, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home.
The funeral ceremony will begin at 10:00 AM with the burial to follow at San Fernando Cemetery #2.
