I remember the Stephen's moving in next door to us in Alpha. It must have been been around 1966. The Stephen's kids quickly became part of the cluster of kids who played together in the neighborhood. We were hanging out in each other's back yards and doing kid stuff. One time Phillip's dad Lonnie brought home a putt putt golf feature. It was a lighthouse that was about 12 feet tall and missing the upper part where the light was supposed to go. I'm don't know where he got it but he set it up in the backyard. All the neighborhood kids took an immediate interest in it. We would enter it at the base and climb up inside it until our heads and shoulders were sticking out the top. One time Phillip was up in it with the top half of his body sticking out when he imitated the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz. He screamed " l' M MELTING! I'M MELTIINNNGG! I'm Going... I'm goiiinnnggg..... Aaaaggghhhh......." While he was doing this, he was flailing his hands and slowly sinking back into the light house until his head disappeared. Everyone who saw it was howling with laughter! It had to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Those were fun times back in the old neighborhood. I haven't seen Phillip in quite some time, but I know his passing leaves a big void in the lives of Patty and family. I'm praying the sadness will pass and be replaced by happy memories

The Stephens lived next door to us in Alpha. One summer day during a softball game in our side yard...circa 1972...I hit the ball and it went across the fence and through the Stephen's window on the side of their house...All the neighborhood kids freaked out, they grabbed there gloves and ran away . After discussing the " incident" with the Stephen's parents, my dad and I gathered a ladder and tools and made the necessary repairs. Phillip later said he was coming down the stairs from his room carrying his shoes and when the ball came through the window it landed in one of his shoes.... The lesson learned was..don't play softball in the side yard, use the field behind the house..so said the adults!
RIP old Alpha friend Phillip, my condolences to Patty and family.
