I was fortunate to work at Williamson and Robertson High School with Armand. He helped me make a number of items for my home in the shop after school. What a kind person!

Armand Stephens was one of the most remarkable men I have ever had the pleasure to know. He was a true gentleman: generous, talented, loving, joyful, and sensitive to the feelings of others. He also made a great cocktail. If the IA teaching career had not worked out, he would have made a wonderful bartender. I loved him, enjoyed my time with him and Mary, and will miss him forever. Armand could always make me laugh. I have some precious memories of laughing so hard while talking with him that neither of us could stop. He was also a comforting presence. With Armand, you didn't have to explain that you needed his support, he just noticed and provided it. He lived his life with gusto. That was something that he and Mary shared; they were well-matched because of the joy they took in life. My way of honoring Armand will be to try to take more joy in each day I am given in my own life. My condolences to his beloved family-Mary, Myron, and Michelle-and to his entire extended family and friends. He was a beloved human. The world is a lesser place without him in it, but what a wonderful legacy he leaves us. I am grateful for his well-lived life.
My "How I met Armand" story: In 2012 I was selling my San Francisco condo and could not find baseboard I needed. My friend Mark Mattingly discovered the baseboard was no longer made. I had time constraints, and was worried about how to get the baseboard. Mark went out to search again, and to my surprise texted me the photo I added here of his friend Armand Stephens making me replacement baseboard by hand on his home equipment. I thought, "Who is this talented person who would be so generous to a stranger? Soon after, my condo sold with Armand Stephens custom baseboard, and I moved to Fremont to stay with Mark, and was introduced to Armand and Mary and their gorgeous home, which I call The Magic House because it's so remarkably beautiful inside and out. Once I got to know Armand and Mary, his generosity made sense. It was just who he was, and who they were as a couple.
