I´ve had many coaches in my life but never had one as great and awesome as coach painter. From supporting me during basketball season when he didn´t even have to, to being the best tennis coach I have had he impacted my life in many ways. He was such a great coach but even better person. I´m so sorry for everything that has happened to him and my prayers and thoughts are out to his family. In all this bad times I just can´t say enough how lucky I am to be able to call this great man a coach and even a friend. Thank you for everything Coach Painter .

Coach painter was always a great mentor/coach and helped shape me into the person and tennis player I am today. He made such a big impact on my life and all of my teammates and I am so happy I got the pleasure to be coached by him.

Always knew Painter as the tough and strait forward coach, but as you got to know him you saw his laid back and humorous side. Painter taught me and the whole Wando tennis team respect, hard work, and what being a tennis player and leader is all about. You will be missed coached but never forgotten.

Bob Lang, Wando Tennis Coach (Assisted Charlie)

Charlie introduced me into coaching in the spring of 2022 when I joined his staff at Wando. What an incredible friend and mentor he proved to be! Charlie was a wonderful storyteller, and he had a dry sense of humor that endeared him to his players. Coaching was in his blood. He could be tough but he was always fair. And he loved his players, who, in turn, flourished under him. Charlie´s 2021 and 2022 teams - his only two full seasons at Wando -- combined for a 40-2 record and back-to-back runner-up finishes at state. Imagine what he could have done with more time at the helm. On behalf of all the Wando tennis players and coaches down here in South Carolina, we are honored to have had Coach Painter lead our program and grace us with his kindness, wisdom and love. GO WARRIORS!

My favorite memories were when he´d come to pick up medication and talk about tennis strategies with me for 2 hours and tell me stories about when his dad would wonder why he came home from school late as a kid, or when he would scold kids at the park for leaving a mess, and teach them that they need to pick up after themselves. He taught a lot of people a lot of important lessons and wanted to make the world a better place. He was truly one of the best customers we had and was always so courteous to us which meant a lot during the pandemic when others were having trouble being as courteous. He never let out his frustrations on us, and was such a bright spot in our day when he´d come shopping.

To the Painter family,
So sorry to hear of Charlie´s passing. I was on the Wright State women´s tennis team from 1994 through 1999. Right state was my first school of choice to play for and I was absolutely thrilled when Charlie called me and asked me to come and play for him. He was a very supportive and understanding coach, for which all of us were so grateful.
I lost my mother in February 2018 and was so appreciative of him coming to her funeral to support me and the rest of my family during such a difficult and traumatic time.
Keeping everyone and his family in my thoughts and in my prayers.
Warmest condolences,
Krista Keller

Dear Painter family, sending love and prayers at the loss of such a wonderful man.
I was blessed when Angelo introduced me to the Painter family years ago, I loved hearing all the old stories about Dorthy and Carlisle and your grandparents, how special to have friends for so many years.
Charlie will be missed and I hope you all find peace and comfort in all your memories. God bless, Carolyn
