I will forever get the giggle `s when I think of us picking blackberries on state property. After the state had purchased the land we thought it was illegal to pick the berries. However, with many years of Mr. Gilbert allowing us to pick whatever we wanted, we decided to become unlawful together! So off, we went, with our 6 gallons to fill. We always put up blackberry preserves, made pies and ice cream together. As we are two hours deep into our picking, we hear a vehicle. We immediately plop down on the ground and tried to be as quiet as possible. Just our luck, it was the county forest ranger. Oh boy, we thought we were going to jail for sure. Of course being a Ranger, he followed our trail right to where we were sitting . When he asked what we were doing, we were thinking we were going to be ticketed or taken away. Much to our great relief he said, pick all you want ladies! And left us standing with our mouths hanging open. This summer outing has continued to make for a great story over the years. Thank you for your friendship. You will be greatly missed, my friend. Love, Kathleen
