Julia Walenczyk Obituary

Julia Ann Walenczyk (October 6, 1939 - January 2, 2024)

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:4

On January 2, 2024, Julia (Judy) Ann Walenczyk, age 84, after a lengthy illness slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus and walked through heaven's gates without pain or struggle, as angels rejoiced and those gone before welcomed her home.
While her death brings us sadness, we remember with grateful hearts the years she blessed us with her life, love, signature smile, and positive attitude. She loved well, was well loved and will be remembered with fondness by all those her life touched. Her life was a blessing to so many.

Judy was born in Moultrie, GA, on October 6, 1939, to John Henry and Laura Elizabeth Jones, who predeceased her. She is survived by her sons, Mark Robert Walenczyk of Germantown, TN, and John Douglas Walenczyk of Atlanta, GA, and former spouse Robert H. Walenczyk. She also is survived by brothers John Allen Jones and David Earl Jones and a number of nieces and nephews, plus a host of friends and colleagues who will continue to remember her legacy of kindness, caring, supporting the people in her path, helping those around her and seeing the best in every situation.

Judy graduated from Thomasville High School where she was a cheerleader and won awards for teamwork, traits that she showed throughout her life. She received her degree from Valdosta State in 1961 and went on to teach elementary school until she became a beloved stay-at-home mom for a number of years. Judy then started her career in behavioral healthcare at Lakeside Hospital working in the business office and needs assessment areas. After recognizing her passion for helping others, she decided to return to college, obtaining her Master's degree in counseling from the University of Memphis and spent more than twenty years as a therapist and clinical administrator at Lakeside Hospital and the Brown Schools with an emphasis on addiction treatment. Judy was truly a counselor at heart, a ready listener, and a believer in God's goodness and grace.

The family would especially like to thank the Memory Care staff at Heritage Senior Living, for the excellent love, care and support they have given to Judy as well as to the family over the last five years.

A private celebration of Judy's life will be held for family in Thomasville, GA.

In lieu of flowers, we would ask that any donations honoring Judy's life be made to the Page Robbins Adult Day Center c/o Julia A. Walenczyk.

I met Judy in 1945 on the first day of elementary school in Thomasville, GA. We walked home together as far as we could, then sat down on the curb to exchange telephone numbers. I have always been proud of call Judy a friend. We miss her smiling face, twisting her hair(LOL) and being an overall great person. We are happy that you are now with our Lord and Saviour as well as your family and all the friends that have gone before her. You are missed and loved Judy. Rest peacefully.

Remembering fondly Judy's smile and quips. What a support she was during long work days at Lakeside. Thanking God for a life well lived. Sending comforting thoughts and virtual hugs to her family.

Judy was my hero growing up, she was my cousin and she was always so positive, and I looked up to her! What sweet family times we had on Papa´s farm as well as at Laura and John´s house, her Mom and Dad! We will miss you, but we know you are in the arms of all you love, and worshiping your Savior Jesus Christ!
