Pearl Churchill Obituary

Pearl Erma (Landstrom) Churchill

Shelburne, MA - Pearl Erma (Landstrom) Churchill, 98, of Shelburne, Massachusetts, passed away on March 8, 2024, after a long full life.

Pearl was born on September 8, 1925, to Oscar and Grace Landstrom on Overbrook Farm in Heath, Massachusetts where she spent her formative years. She attended a one room schoolhouse, graduating High School from Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls, and going on to study at North Adams Teachers College, graduating with High Honors in 1949.

She wed the love of her life, Alvin Lake Churchill, on June 25, 1949, and together, they went on to raise six children, Linda, Nancy, Arlene, Douglas, Fred, and David, fulfilling her childhood aspirations of becoming a loving mother to her six children, while leaving a legacy of love for her 19 grand-children, and 28 great-children.

Pearl was a passionate homemaker, and when she wasn't filling her home with warmth and kindness, she was a faithful and dedicated 65 year member of the First Congregational Church of Shelburne serving in various capacities. She enjoyed working at Apex Orchards for several years, where she made many friends. She also found boundless joy in spending time with her family, especially during the holidays, watching her beloved Red Sox, Patriots, golf, and having afternoon tea breaks with the kids. She loved her extensive collection of teacups, porcelain figures, especially Chickadees, snow globes, and recipes! She also enjoyed traveling around the country, and beyond, with her sisters and taking long drives in the evening looking for deer. In addition to all of this, she enjoyed reading, gardening, preserving, baking, caning chair seats, paint by numbers, puzzles (no more than five hundred pieces), wallpapering, and keeping busy with mountains of washing, ironing, and many other things with excellence and grace.

Pearl was predeceased by her husband Alvin, son Fred, daughter Nancy Richardson, daughter in law Diane Churchill, great-grandson Arthur Ayvazian, and her sister Ada Duffy. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Linda and Joseph Judd, James Richardson, Arlene and Ewan Mikolajczuk, Douglas and Cindy Churchill, Norma Churchill Parda, David Churchill, sister Ruth Johnson, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to Smith and Kelleher Funeral Home located at 40 Church Street, Shelburne Falls, MA. 01370. Or in lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the First Congregational Church of Shelburne, care of Lewis Goodnow, 1403 Mohawk Trail, Shelburne, MA., 01370. There will be a Funeral Service held at the First Congregational Church of Shelburne, 21 Common Rd., Shelburne, Massachusetts on April 4th, 2024, at 1:00pm. A reception will follow at the Fellowship Hall located directly up the hill from the Church.
