John brought a wonderful enthusiasm and youthful optimism to students and athletes at Tippecanoe Jr. High and High School, and leadership to the kids serving the Rec Youth Council in Tipp City. He was a thoroughly decent man of good character who encouraged us all.
Once, during a junior high gym class on boxing, I held the stop watch to time 1 minute matches. I misread the watch for the first two rounds, stopping them after 30 seconds. John questioned each, then I realized I had misread the watch and let him know. Instead of berating me, he winked and said "I though so", smiling. A good guy.

I am sorry to hear this and wish to express my sympathies and love for the Oda family. John helped me in my early career to not let the small stuff bother and to stay focused on the what was best for students, staff and community. Thank You John.
