I recently reconnected with my cousin , Jane via email last year. Her mother was sister to my mother Mary Elinor Wingate Morgan. One of my favorite memories was when I was probably about 10 years old. My family was visiting from Illinois. I remember being in the bathroom along with Louise and Gail watching Jane fix her hair and makeup for a date with Billy. When he came to the door, met family and then walked her down the sidewalk to his car , my young brain thought,"Now THAT is LOVE!!!"

The news of my eldest cousin leaves me saddened and feeling cheated for having missed the opportunity of knowing her more intimately. Her only maternal aunt, my mother, Elinor Wingate Morgan, spoke of Jane with love and admiration. Jane was the flower girl for my parents´ wedding, and reportedly loved my parents dearly. Many visits to the ancestral Illinois farm provided grounded character and happy memories of time spent with her beloved grandparents, Ray and Mary Wingate. Jane may not have been aware of her positive influence in the lives of my siblings and I. Her graciousness, kindness, and industriousness were duly noted, and she was a great role model for us. May God be with Jane´s entire family and friends, and may they find comfort in his presence. (Photo is of my mother, Jane´s Aunt Elinor, 1947)

My neighbor, Jane, was interesting, friendly, attractive , kind , and full of personality. I will miss her, as will so many on Hilton Head Island. We all send our deepest sympathy to her family.. May she rest in peace.

My Aunt Jane was my rock. She was so important to me. She was there years after I figured I even needed family. She knew the importance of marriage and family and helped shape both by being there, guiding me without even knowing she was. She is my hero! She's so strong, so energetic and always knows what the right thing to do. She loved her daughters so much , and Billy, and my mom Carol, her sister Gail anx Louise, and her brothers Bruce and Mark. My mom and she traveled the world, and she is still my idol, my rock, my loving aunt Jane, who I´ll miss so very much.
