Jeanie Tidwell Obituary

TIDWELL, Jeanie

Jeanie King Tidwell was born August 21, 1923 and passed away June 24, 2024. She was the most wonderful wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend ever created by God. Her enthusiasm for life and optimism were always an encouragement to those around her. She married the love of her life, Leslie Tidwell, the same night she graduated from West Fulton High School in 1943. They were married for almost 50 years and together created a small business in the Bolton community of Atlanta, selling furniture and appliances. Leslie handled the appliances and Jeanie took care of the furniture, even going to night school taking classes in interior design. They were a great team and together they had 4 children. Jeanie was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie; daughter, Renee; grandsons, Trey Tidwell and Baker McClain. She is survived by her son, Bill Tidwell (Cherie) of Rome; daughter, Vicki McClain (Steve) of Atlanta; and daughter, Terri Mathis (Steve) of Marietta. She is also survived by her Grandchildren-Mandy Tidwell, Steven McClain (Jodi), Josh Mathis (Bren), and Katie Holmes (Clay). She was the proud great-grandmother of 9: Hayla, Tatum, Mallory, Caroline, Maggie, Jack, Abby, Graham and Bailey. As a child, she had a brain tumor and after surgery was told that she would probably never be able to have children. She was proud of overcoming the diagnosis and loved her family dearly. Jeanie was always active in the church she loved, Collins Memorial UMC in Atlanta. She taught middle and senior high Sunday school for over 30 years; participating in retreats and fundraisers for the youth. She participated in every Bible study offered, some multiple times, sang in the church choir and was the church historian. She served on the church board as recording secretary for over 40 years and also volunteered in the Church food pantry. Christmas was her favorite holiday and for years she spearheaded the delivery of fruit baskets to the sick and shut ins of the church and community. Even though she experienced many hardships and heartbreaks, she always had a smile and encouraging word. She believed that prayer changes things and touched countless lives. She loved well and will truly be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Weekday Ministry at Marietta FUMC or your favorite local food pantry. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 2 PM in the sanctuary of Marietta FUMC, 56 Whitlock Avenue, Marietta, Georgia 30064 followed by a reception in the Reception Hall immediately following the service.

My condolences on the lost of Your Mom. She was my first Sunday school teacher at Collins Memorial. I know she is with the Lord Jesus Christ, what a celebration in heaven! Those were some of my best times growing up and going to MYF at Collins. I miss those days... most all of our parents are in heaven now. For a big Collins Memorial reunion.... Terri, I will be praying for you and Steve and your family. Also that at tomorrow's send off it will be inspiring for others to come to know the Lord as their Savior. God bless from an old friend.
