Mr. Cox was my choir teacher for 3 years at Hayward. I loved music and singing, but his love for music nurtured mine. I loved my middle school years and he was one of the reasons. He was gentle, kind, funny, nurturing. We weren't an easy group, but oh we loved music. We lost a choir classmate that year and he led our sad hearts to perform He Ain't Heavy, He's my Brother. Will never forget him. I tell my students about him in my classroom.

To the Cox family, I send my condolences. Mr. Cox was my Boys Glee Club, and Choir director at Hayward Jr. High (76-78). He was truly an amazing man. His love for music sparked me to not only sing, but also to learn to play several instruments. RIP Mr. Cox!
