Gwendolyn Place Obituary
New London, NH - Gwendolyn Place passed away peacefully at her home with family on July 14, 2024. She was born in Saugus, Massachusetts on March 30, 1930 to Kenneth and Esther Larkin. She attended Katharine Gibbs School in Boston where she completed secretarial training. Upon graduation, she worked for Loomis, Sales & Company. On October 10, 1953, she married her beloved husband, Christopher Place. They had a cherished marriage until his death in 2013. Together, they had two daughters - Christine Taylor and Susan Merrell.
Gwen and Chris were fortunate to travel widely through Chris's career as a flight engineer for Pan American Airlines. They lived for many happy years in Redding, Connecticut, where Gwen was very active in her community and church, Christ Church. She retired first to Grantham and then to New London to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She remained active in St. Andrews Church in New London.
Gwen's family was deeply important to her. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her much joy.
Gwen was predeceased by her dear husband, Chris. She is survived by her daughters Christine and Susan, her sons-in-law Jack Taylor and Tom Merrell, her brother David Larkin, her grandchildren and their spouses Ben Taylor (Beth Williams), Susan (Garrett) Wasp, Hannah Merrell, and Caroline (Connor) Eck, and her great grandchildren Jack and Remy Wasp, Henry and June Taylor, and Charlotte Eck.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Andrews Church in New London, New Hampshire.

When Alfred & I became residents of the Grey Ledges Condominium community, we were welcomed by the most delightful and interesting Gwen and Chris Place. They were the most interesting and jolly of our group and beloved by all. When Chris departed, he was much missed, but Gwen remained for a while which continued the wonderful Place warmth and fun in our community. When Gwen moved away, our community was diminished.
But we never drive up our hill that we do not glance over to their wonderful home thinking of them and the joy and fun they offered to us all.
Gwen was a smart, dear, and funny woman who made everyone feel wonderful in her presence. She was a gift.

Our deepest sympathies. Aunt Gwen, as she was known to me, is a great woman who was always thinking of others whether it be her family, friends or others in the community. She is someone I look up to and will remember fondly. She will forever live in our hearts and memories.
