Sally Peebles Obituary

Sally Ann Mickey Peebles, 82, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 28, 2024.

Born on April 20, 1942, Sally was the daughter of the late David A. "Doc" Mickey and Anna Lee (nee Light) Mickey of Paragould, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles Larry Peebles, an infant brother, David Allison Mickey, and nephew, Jonathan Mickey. She is survived by her children, Charles "Chip" Peebles, Jr. (Dina), Pamela Peebles, and David Peebles, in addition to her grandchildren, Quinn (Mary Larkin), Emma, Christopher, and David. She also leaves behind her sister, Alice Miles (John) and brother, George Mickey (Suelynne), along with nieces Allison Kennedy (Jay) and Amy Compton (Doug).

Sally graduated from Paragould High School and studied piano performance at both Arkansas State College and the University of Memphis. While at Arkansas State she was a majorette, Honorary Lieutenant Cadet Colonel, and a member of Alpha Omicron PI sorority. A noted beauty, Sally earned the title of Miss Jonesboro and in the same year was the runner-up to Miss Arkansas. Playing the piano was her life-long avocation, and her musical skills were much sought after for church services, weddings, funerals, and many other occasions. No task seemed too hard for Sally, from cooking meals for her sons' football teams, sewing window treatments, earning her real estate license, mastering the latest technology, and even outdoing her husband in an occasional duck hunt. She cheerfully tackled daunting projects such as the Harvest Festival when her children were students at ECS and made outreach a beautiful priority with her involvement with the annual Christmas Program at her church. Friends were known to frequently stop by her home unannounced, assured of a warm welcome and hoping to find a bowl of her legendary chicken and dumplings or a slice of her acclaimed coconut cream pie. Sally was a longtime member of First Evangelical Church, where many of her cherished friendships were fostered in the Bountiful Blessings Sunday School class.

A service of celebration of Sally's life will be held Saturday, August 24 at 11:30 am at First Evangelical Church, 735 Ridge Lake Boulevard in Memphis, preceded by a visitation at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Calvary Rescue Mission or First Evangelical Church.`
