John Countess Obituary
Mr. Countess was born on August 24, 1934 in Bassett, Arkansas, one of four children born to the late John & Velma J. Countess.
John was a graduate of Bartlett High School and retired from the Memphis Area Transit Authority, MATA.
Along with his parents John was preceded in death by his wives Wanda Gail Countess and Evie Waldrip Countess; and two sisters Margaret Black and Joyce Four.
He is survived by his children David (Sascha) Countess of Bartlett and Teresa Countess Chumney of Memphis; grandchildren Tyler Countess, Carolyn Countess and Christopher Chumney, Josey (Bryson) Jones; and his sister Maggie Wilson of Memphis.
Family and friends will gather on Sunday, September 29 from three o'clock until five o'clock in the afternoon and funeral services will be Monday, September 30 starting at ten o'clock in the morning all at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119.
Burial with procession will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery on Raleigh Lagrange Road. Mr. Thomas McAdory of Calvary Church of the Nazarene will lead the days services.

I worked with John Countess at MATA. Besides being an excellent worker, he was a kind true Gentleman. After he retired, he came back to help us in an area we needed. Always willing to help. He was involved in the credit union for many years. We will miss John.

So very sorry for your loss. John was married to my cousin, Gail and a best friend to my brother-in-law Maxie Wallis. My condolences a d prayers are with the family.
