Samuel Shuster Obituary

Samuel Evans Shuster of Cordova, TN passed away peacefully at his home on September 25, 2024, after a brief illness.

Born on June 12, 1936, in Ridley Park, PA, Sam attended Glen-Nor High School in Prospect Park, PA. He received his BS in Business from the Pennsylvania Military Institute and went on to earn an MBA from Michigan State University. Sam spent his entire career in sales with the food industry and his work took him to Michigan, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Louisiana and eventually Tennessee.

Sam was an avid member of Hope Church for 36 years. He was a charter member, served as an elder and served on the diaconate. Sam was incredibly compassionate and cared deeply about his community. He was active in Hope's various inner-city ministries, including the Read to Succeed program which he did with his wife for nearly a decade.

In his free time Sam enjoyed cooking (he was a master on the smoker), fishing, road tripping, reading, the arts, and the occasional cigar.

Sam is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn; his three daughters, Leslie Squiers (Jerry), Lisa Greene, and Sandra Shuster; 5 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his sister Marie Shuster; and Carolyn's two sons, Thomas Goodman III and Phillip Goodman.

The funeral service and celebration of Sam's life will take place on October 14 at 11:00 am at Hope Church, 8500 Walnut Grove Road in Cordova.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Oasis of Hope, an organization that Sam cared deeply about that serves the marginalized communities north of downtown Memphis. Donations can be made here: https://www.oohmemphis.com/donate.

His was a life well-lived! I recall gift boxes from his time at Heinz--to my young self, the boxes really did seem to contain all 57 varieties! I especially loved the various pickles. Sam always had a ready smile and a listening ear for me when he visited. Couldn't ask for a nicer uncle.
