Allen A. Rockwood
Greenfield , MA - Allen Albert Rockwood, 79, of 88 Oakland Street, died Friday, November 29, 2024. He suddenly took ill at home, transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center where he passed away.
Allen was born in Bloomfield, CT, November 25, 1945. He was the son of William Emery, Jr., and Florence M. (Lockwood) Rockwood. He moved with his family in 1946 to South Deerfield, MA. Allen was educated in Greenfield and Deerfield Schools, but spent many years in Taunton, MA, returning to Greenfield at the age of 32.
Allen enjoyed life to the fullest. He went on special adventures with his sister and friends to the Cape, Peaks Island, ME, Hull, MA, and Mystic, CT. He also went on several day trips, with the Bronx Zoo being one of his favorites. Allen attended the Vitality Day Program and made many friends there. He enjoyed making jewelry and was Santa at their Christmas parties. Allen loved drawing birds, especially Robins and jigsaw puzzles (often finishing them within an hour or so of starting them). He enjoyed spending time in the gazebo watching all the fish in their pond. Allen loved the Patriots and the Red Sox and Chris and our brother Kirk made sure he had enough tees, hats and jackets with their team names. However, Allen loved the Greenfield and Turners Falls football, and for many years attended their home games.
Allen lived in several homes in the Greenfield-Turners Falls-Gill area. However, his last 11 years was spent living in the home of his favorite caregiver, Chris Chagnon, whom provided him with a loving and nurturing environment. Our family considers Chris a member of our family and we thank him for the many years of loving care he provided.
Allen is survived by 5 siblings: Sisters: Shirley A. Foster of East Hartford, CT; Faith E. Rockwood, of Greenfield; and brothers: Kirk D. of Bellview, FL; Raymond K. (Peggy) and Wayne B. Rockwood of Greenfield. Additionally there are several nieces and nephews that Allen loved dearly.
Allen was pre-deceased by his parents and his brothers William E. III, Martin, George and Lawrence.
Burial was private in the Green River Cemetery, Greenfield, MA. The McCarthy Funeral Homes of Greenfield and Turners Falls were entrusted with the arrangements. Messages of e-condolence and remembrances of Allen maybe directed to his Tribute Wall at
