DONALD G. WOMACKS, 90, of Springfield passed away on December 7, 2024. He was born on April 2, 1934, in South Charleston, Ohio to his parents Gail and Frances (Justice) Womacks. Don enlisted in the United States Navy at age 18 where he kept the airplanes flying in the Pacific Theater. With his Navy experience he became a quality assurance specialist and kept Chinook helicopters flying safely during the Viet Nam War. He worked at Speco, Boeing, International Harvester, and retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base as the Chief of Quality Assurance of the 4950th Test Wing ("The Mod Center") for the F-16 SPO. Don was also a motorhead his whole life. He enjoyed working on cars, and with his wife JoAnne followed the NASCAR circuit for years in their motor home, and never missed the Indy 500. He also cheered on the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Cleveland Browns. Don was best known for his ready wit and his hilarious one-liners. Don is survived by his children Jennifer (Kevin) Weinbrecht and Jonathan Womacks, grandchildren Beth (Adam) Dean, Amy (Greg) Patterson, great-grandchildren Izzy, Oliver, Colin, and Charlie, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife JoAnne (nee Murry), and younger siblings Milton and Dorothy Nibert. In recent years, his dear friend Lisa Barker-Norman from Bristol, TN lifted his spirits and kept him laughing with daily phone calls. Visitation for Donald will be held Friday December 13th from 3-5pm at LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. The funeral service will be held Saturday 14th at 10:30am at the funeral home with burial to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery.
