Stephen Loughridge Obituary

Stephen Loughridge, 75, of Memphis, passed away on January 26, 2025, in Hospice at his Memphis Home. He was born on October 18, 1949, to Marion and Peggy Loughridge in Memphis, Tennessee. Steve attended Bartlett High School and Graduated in 1969. In December 1969, he enlisted in the Tennessee National Guard, where he was a Survey Recorder for the 3-115th Field Artillery. He served six years in the National Guard, including a tour in Vietnam. Steve worked as a Produce Manager at A&P Grocery stores, where he met his future wife Betty in 1975, and as a Machine Operator and Fabricator for over 30 years at Southern Fabricators. Steve was baptized at Oakhaven Baptist Church on January 25, 1981. In February of the same year, he married Betty Pickard and had three children: Bryan, Scott, and Keith. He was heavily involved at his churches, Oakhaven Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church, as a Sunday school teacher, usher, baseball coach, Royal Ambassador Leader, Provost, and other duties. He was an avid golfer and held Jack Nicklaus, "The Golden Bear," in high regard. In 1996, he took a tumble from a golf cart while trying to retrieve a ball with his great friend Randy Bloodworth. The event went down in local lore, earning him the moniker "The Golden Tumbler." He also had the slowest and smoothest swing in Golf, which made him the master of the "Power Fade." He was a fan of all sports on TV, no matter who was playing. However, everything else took a back seat, if it was the Atlanta Braves, Memphis Grizzlies, or Memphis Tigers. He also enjoyed spending time with his brother in their man cave and going to Talladega Nascar races. For a man who was pessimist when it came to traveling later in life, Stephen traveled all over the world from Alaska to Europe to Mexico and everywhere in between to visit his family. Contrary to his expectations, he ended up enjoying all of his travels. Stephen is survived by his wife, Betty of 43 years; sons, Bryan (Maria) Loughridge of Santa Monica, CA; Scott (Mallori) Loughridge of Fayetteville, NC; and Keith Loughridge of Nashville, TN; and his seven grandchildren, Isabella, Idris, Amelia, Abigail, Atlas, Catherine, and Dagny; his brother and sister, Rusty (Dana) Loughridge & Nancy (Bob) Donelson; Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, many friends and relatives, his brother Donnie, and his dogs Rascal and Memphis. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 15th, 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:45 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis, TN. Funeral services will be held following the visitation on February 15th, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis, TN. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rusty Loughridge, Bryan Loughridge, Keith Loughridge, Scott Loughridge, Coleton Loughridge, Mitch Loughridge, Riley Loughridge and Idris Loughridge. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Second Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.

I did some work for Steve at his house and he was always very polite and cordial. I spent a couple of evenings after working for Steve in the man cave and it was like " happy hour ". I didn´t improve on my putting at his one hole green in the man cave but enjoyed it just the same. I will always have those genuinely good moments to remember with Steve.
