Vernita Burns

With loving remembrance, we celebrate the beautiful life of Vernita Gipson-Burns, a woman of grace, kindness, and unwavering love. Born in Sardis, Mississippi, to Juanita Brown, Vernita later made Memphis, Tennessee, her home. She worked diligently as a professional associate at Williams Sonoma until her well-earned retirement. Vernita was more than a devoted mother and wife-she was the heart of her family. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and joy, where love, laughter, and fellowship filled every corner. Whether she was entertaining friends, preparing a meal, or simply sharing stories, she welcomed all with open arms and a generous heart. She leaves behind a legacy of love and family, survived by her beloved son, Darrell Burns, stepchildren Adrienne Washington and Rodney Burns. She cherished her grandchildren: Trevillious Burns (Big Red), Devonte Burns, Trevonte Burns (Peso & Fredo), Delango Porter (Rambo), Darrell Burns Jr. (Hell Rell), Destiny Burns, Mariah Burns (Lady Bug), Angel Burns, and a host of other grandchildren, whom she adored deeply. Vernita is also survived by her ex-husband Eugene Burns, her dear brothers, Renard Gibson and Alvin Gibson, and her devoted cousin, Ruby Elmore. She was blessed with an extended family of love, including members of the Tucker, Ellis, Hoyle, and Ford families. Through the years, she was surrounded by the unwavering friendship of her best friend, Rose Cupcus. Vernita's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her spirit of love, generosity, and kindness will live on in the lives she touched. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that her soul has found eternal rest, reunited with those who went before her. Her journey on this earth was one of love, resilience, and faith, and though she is no longer with us in body, her memory will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Vernita.
