James Norman Obituary

James "Butch" Arthur Norman, Sr., 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. Butch graduated from Newbern High School in Newbern, TN, in the Class of 1961. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965, further demonstrating his dedication to his country. Butch enjoyed a fulfilling career, retiring after 25 years of service as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. His dedication and community involvement extended beyond his work, as he was an active member of several organizations, including LaBelle Haven Baptist Church, the National Association of Letter Carriers, and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA). He was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and the Wahabi Temple Shriners, though both memberships were inactive in his later years. In addition to his organizational affiliations, Butch was deeply committed to his community. He volunteered as a firefighter and served as a reserve deputy for the Desoto County Sheriff's Department during the 1970s and 1980s, always ready to lend a helping hand. Butch had a passion for motorcycles, a love that led him to join the Mini Bike Corps for the Shriners. He was an avid rider, sharing his joy for motorcycling with others and making lifelong memories along the way. His presence will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the community he so dearly loved. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lee Norman and Agnes Imogene Berry Norman; his sisters, Gladys Tune and Ruby Hunt. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Rhodes Norman of Memphis, TN; his children, Dawn Norman Robinson (Rod) of Collierville, TN, and James "Jay" Arthur Norman, Jr. of Hernando, MS; his grandchildren: Joshua Robinson, Meredith Robinson, Mary Kaitlin Robinson, Megan Robinson, Sienna Norman and Gavin Norman. He is also survived by his sisters: Betty Olesen of North Ogden, UT, Judy Spencer of Hernando, MS,, and Kathy Lanier of Nesbit, MS. A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at LaBelle Haven Baptist Church, 4800 HWY 305 Olive Branch, MS 38654.
