James Eugene "Jim" McCown

1946 - 2025

James "Jim" Eugene McCown, age 79, passed away peacefully with his wife and long-time friend, Steve Rogers, at his side on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. He was born the youngest of seven children on March 25, 1946 to Ruth Harwood McCown (Fly) and Dr. Oswald Stuart McCown, Jr. of Memphis, TN. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Stuart McCown, Dr. Dillard McCown, Frances McCown Whittinghill, Richard McCown, Murray Harwood McCown and Ruth McCown Drewry.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Arduini McCown; daughter, Lauren McWhirter (George); grandson, Chase and great granddaughter, Habour. Jim leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.

After his service in the Navy, Jim went on to become a master carpenter and successful general contractor for over five decades working on many famous Memphis landmarks. In more recent years, he enjoyed gardening with his wife and their involvement in the Cooper-Young community. Jim made an impression on everyone he met with his kindness, creativity and fun-loving spirit. He will be greatly missed by all.

Services will be Sunday, April 27th at High Point Funeral Home at 3788 Summer Ave.; Visitation from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.; Service at 2:00 p.m.; Reception immediately following at The Chimes and Occasions, 201 Cooper St. to celebrate his life.
