Mary Forbess Obituary

Mary Ruth Forbess Born November 1, 1937 died peacefully on June 10th 2025. She is survived by her three children Dorrie Lynn, Lora Johanna Fawn and Samual Zane. Her three grandchildren Jessie, Elijah, Larissa and son in law, Tino Van Der Vyver. Mary Ruth, was a friend to the stars and attended Humes High School at the same time as Elvis Presley. She would visit him, at Graceland, while he was alive and she loved to attend the events honoring Elvis after his death. She was a good friend to Jerry Lee Lewis, who took her on one of his tours to Europe. She especially enjoyed supporting local music as evident from the countless musicians that she called friends. Mary Ruth was never far from a book with Zane Grey one of her favorites. Her Sunday's would be spent watching football, with Joe Montana her favorite and recently Patrick Mahomes. She especially treasured any time spent with family and friends, whether in Memphis or on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Mary Ruth spent most of her life in service to others and will be remembered for her love and laughter. Services will be conducted at Forest Hill Funeral Home, on 2440 Whitten Road, at 10am July 2nd, followed by a grave side internment at 1661 South Elvis Presley Boulevard. A celebration of life will be conducted at Hernando's Hideaway, 3210 Old Hernando Rd, from 2pm-5pm, with live music and BBQ.
