Neal McCormack Obituary

Neal Stanford McCormack, Jr. (Mack, Dad Mack and Baba) of Bartlett, Tennessee, Marion, Arkansas, Miami Shores, Florida, Germantown Tennessee, East and Midtown Memphis died June 29, 2025 at home with his Family. Neal was born October 8, 1948 in Birmingham, Alabama, the only child of Anna Louise (Williams) and Neal Stanford McCormack, Sr. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Photography from Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis). He taught Photography at Lausanne School for a short time and then joined Holiday Inns' Holiday Inn University (HIU). Over his years with the organization, Neal was chief photographer, multimedia creator, videographer and producer for both Franchise Owners' Conferences and U.S Hotel Operations' Idea Fairs, He was named Star Performer while at Hotel Services Division. He also consulted at Pro Video and DAT Digital. His proudest project was the design and implementation of audio visual and multimedia systems for the The Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality at his alma mater. In 1973 he met a Producer at HIU-TV, Carol Douglas Cobb. After a long courtship, they married at a colleague's home in Central Gardens in 1979. Neal and Carol's favorite songs were Paul Simon's Kodachrome and Monty Python's Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. Remaining to celebrate Neal's life are his wife Carol, his twin sons Chris and Michael, his daughter-in-law, Janice Ramirez McCormack and his three Granddaughters; Ava, Luci and Olyvia McCormack. He leaves both his nephew Patrick Cashman and his niece Nancy Cashman Rau. Neal was great uncle to Robert & Courtney Rau, John Rau, James Rau, William Rau and Willem (Sara) Cashman and great-great uncle to Rayleigh Cashman. Bank fishing for bass was Neal's favorite meditation. Before his vision was impaired, he also crafted complex origami designs, and could repair any vehicle with wheels. He designed and built garden walkways, gates and privacy fences. A true gentleman, with a generous spirit, Neal spent his life as a role model for his sons. Preceding Neal in death were his Mother and his Father; his in-laws, Milly and Roy Cobb-who adored him-and his sister-and brother-in law Diane Cobb Cashman and John Cashman, MD. Those who faithfully support Neal and Carol include Dawn Niven, Jerry Gibbs, R.R. Rogers, Dana Robbins and Tommie Stockley in Arkansas, Mary and Bob Smolen in Michigan, Jane and Jeff McComas in Utah, Cheryl and Michael Anderson in Iowa and Mary Bell in North Carolina and Carole and David Rush in Wyoming. The congregations of Holy Cross Episcopal Church and The Assembly of God, both of West Memphis, Arkansas have been steadfast in their prayers. Special thanks to the Bartlett Fire and Police Departments for their rapid response and heroic efforts on Neal's behalf. BPD Officer Will Simpson was especially supportive and compassionate. Forest Hill Cemetery-East on Whitten Road is handling Neal's arrangements.
