Charles Marshall Obituary

Marshall II, Charles L. "Charlie"

Aged 82, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025.

A patriotic veteran, "Charlie" served as an officer in the Army in Germany, where he met his beloved wife, Isolde. With her, he returned to his hometown of Dayton to work for his father at Grismer Tire Company. In 1985, he became President. Together with his brother, he grew the company to 28 stores, two commercial locations, and one retread plant. He was known for his hard work and dedication to the customer. He never retired.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Heidi, and her husband, Hans Meier, his brother, John (Karen) Marshall, and his sister-in-law, Angelika Zipfel, in Germany. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, Gertrude Bucher and Charles Marshall, and his sister Elizabeth and some faithful birddogs.

Charlie had a keen intellect and wide range of interests, including business, politics, and history. He was a pilot, an avid hunter, and had a passion for classic cars and boating. He also held a deep appreciation for classical music and opera. He was a proud alumnus of the Chi Chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Purdue University, where he served as trustee of the educational foundation and was selected as 2014 Man of the Year.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers of Dynamic Senior Solutions and dear friend Sharon Vander Gheynst.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 10th at 1PM at Emmanuel Catholic Church. Private burial for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Glen at Saint Joseph.

Heidi, I was sorry to hear your dad had passed. Thank you for sharing him with the neighborhood growing up and allowing him to make the youth of your neighborhood so much richer in memories with your fireworks, go carts, model airplanes, british cars and infectious joy. Godspeed Mr. Marshall!

Hello Heidi,
I was sorry to learn of your Dad´s passing.
As you know, I was your babysitter when you were still in the crib.
Your Mom would pick me up and drop me off in her silver Jaguar XKE. As a teenager, that was so cool!
Years flashed by, and then our stars realigned, as we reconnected in France working for Great Lakes Chemical.
Then later, we reconnected again when I visited you in your Oakwood home.
I recall your Dad´s old Singer race car parked in the garage. Also, how cool your parents´ home was, with hidden staircase and the very cool old sailing ship captains quarters. Your parents, your Mom, Dad were very special, as mine were as well.
Heidi, again sorry for your loss and I wish you the very best. Bob Possel

Rusty was a great guy to know and work with. Knew him for many years
as a Firestone dealer. We were both Purdue grads and I know he was
loyal to his school and fraternity. RIP old boy.

I was so sad to hear the news about Charlie. I was his next door neighbor for several years. He truly was a great man and lived a life full of passion. His wife Isolde was also my dear friend. Two very gracious beings. I am so sorry Heidi. My heart hurts for you.

I am Tom and Maureen McGinty´s daughter, Shauna. When I was in college over at UD, Rusty would invite me over for dinner with him and Isolde. He would come pick me up in his car, donning his driving gloves and hat, and a welcoming smile. I am forever grateful for how they took me under their wing when I was far away from my own parents. He also took it upon himself to help me when one of my side mirrors was hit on campus. He was a beloved friend of my Dads, and one of the kindest people I have met. Prayers to your family. Isolde and Rusty were wonderful humans.

To the family Maureen and I extend our sincere condolences. Rusty was a good friend for over 42 years and was a man I respected and could always count on. I will miss his conversations and the time spent together over the years. As we visited Isolde and Rusty up in Rochester MN we saw the great love and respect he shared with her. We will miss you my friend. God speed. Give Isolde a hug from the McGinty´s.
