Virginia Holub Obituary

Virginia Teague Holub

Charlottesville, VA - Virginia Teague Holub, "Ginger," of Charlottesville died on July 1, 2025, at 81 years of age. Ginger was born on October 26, 1943, at Fort Benning, GA, to Bert and Joanne Teague. She was raised in Newport, New Hampshire, and attended Newport schools, graduating from Towle High School in 1961. Ginger received her B.Ed. and M.Ed. from Keene State College and taught school in Merrimack, NH, for 15 years. She saw herself as a teacher from a young age which led her to specialize in a field serving children with special needs. Ginger was often heard to say, "Put me in a room with a bunch of kids and I'm a happy person."

In 1980, Ginger migrated south to Charlottesville to assume responsibilities at the UVA Children's Hospital as an education consultant. In that role, she supported pediatric patients with chronic illnesses in an effort to maximize their school participation. Ginger described her 33 years in that position as "the best job ever." Throughout her 48 years of employment, Ginger worked for only two administrators, both of whom were inspirations in the field of education.

Surviving Ginger is her husband, Bob Holub, whom she married in 1998. Again, she was often heard saying that "it was the best thing she ever did for herself."

Virginia Teague Holub was predeceased by her parents, Bert and Joanne Teague. Surviving siblings are John (and Christine) Teague, Calista (and Bill) Thurlow, Beverly (and Craig) Lillehei, and Tom (and Sally) Teague.

Surviving also are nephews Reuben, Neal, Dan, and Alex Teague and their families, as well as niece Katie Lillehei Adelfio and husband Andrew and family, and Chris and Jenn Lillehei and family.

Stepchildren Bob Holub Jr., and wife Meg and their son Graham, and also Anne Holub and her husband Dan Snedigar also survive Ginger.

Bob and Ginger were confirmed at Christ Episcopal Church of Charlottesville where Ginger frequently volunteered. Her favorite role was that as hostess at the Tuesday Our Daily Bread Lunch where she met a slew of new friends.

A memorial service celebrating Ginger's life will take place at Christ Episcopal Church 120 W. High St. in Charlottesville, on Saturday, August 2nd at 11am. A private reception will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Christ Church Outreach Ministry of Charlottesville or the local SPCA, where Ginger and Bob found their wonderful dog Chester whom they cherished for so many years. Cards and remembrances can be mailed to Bob at 546 Pebble Hill Court, Charlottesville, VA 22903.

Ginger and I have been dear friends for for over 67 years. The Teague family was my second family. Most recently our communication has been by frequent e-mails. Her love and caring always came through on the printed page. My daughter Beth remarked it was only recently that Aunt Ginger was really not her aunt! This amazing angel of God is still making people laugh and discovering who they really are, as she successfully did on this earth. Rest in Peace my beloved Ginger. Greetings to my fabulous friend, When you reached heaven did God explain what the urgency was for him to decide that he needed you immediately? You would be the perfect person for him. I love and miss you and can't explain how many discussions we have often with no resolution. I have been praying for you and I feel that you are now surrounded by all love. I love you

Ginger was the perfect person to convince me that I should volunteer serving lunches on Tuesdays. She always had a warm smile and was interesting to talk to. I and many others will miss her.

Oh Bob, I'm so sorry for your loss. Ginger was a bright light in any room with her warming smile and gracious greetings. She was the first person that I met in Charlottesville back in 1981. We worked together at the Children's Rehab Center where she became a mentor and over the years became a friend. Her love of children was an example for so many. You will be in my prayers for peace as you find a new normal. Mary Alice

Dear Mr. Holub and family,

Hi, my name is Jack Jones. Mr. Holub, I am sure you don't remember me but I was a student at WAHS, graduated in 1982, I never had you for a teacher but many of my friends did and I got to know you a little thru them. It was easy to tell how passionate you were about teaching and your students education and well being. I just wanted to say how very very sorry I am to hear about your wife. Obviously I never me her but the obituary you all wrote gives everyone a very good idea what a wonderful person she was. I wish you and your family peace and comfort in the days ahead.

Sincerely,
Jack Jones
