Gwynne Hagan Obituary
Gwynne Somogyi Hagan, 50, of Germantown, TN, passed away on September 1, 2025. Born on December 20, 1974, in Memphis, TN, Gwynne was the cherished daughter of the late Hazel Spain Butler and Richard Russell Somogyi, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her beloved stepfather, Michael "Mike" Butler, and her oldest brother, Richard "Rich" Russell Somogyi, Jr. Gwynne is survived by her loving husband, Jim Hagan, and their two sons, Harrison "Harry" Hagan and Garrett Hagan - the center of her world. She is also survived by her brother Christopher Somogyi (Ashley) and sisters Michelle Butler Himes (Barry) and Keri Somogyi. She was a proud and loving aunt to Catelyn Somogyi, Sydney Somogyi, Caroline Somogyi, Gavin Knight, Grayson Knight, Clayton Somogyi and Maddux Brown. A 1993 graduate of Germantown High School, Gwynne had a natural gift for connecting with people - a talent her mother encouraged her to turn into a career in sales. Taking her mother's advice to heart, Gwynne thrived in the field and went on to dedicate nearly 25 years to R&L Carriers as an Account Executive. She was a seven-time recipient of the prestigious President's Club award - a testament to her work ethic, tenacity, and the genuine care she brought to every relationship. While she was accomplished in her career, Gwynne's most treasured role was at home as a devoted wife and mother. Her love for "her boys" was fierce and unconditional. She was their biggest supporter and could always be found cheering them on from the sidelines - often the second-loudest voice in the crowd, just behind Jim. High-school sweethearts and true soulmates, Jim and Gwynne built a life centered on love, laughter, and family. Gwynne was fiercely loyal, endlessly passionate, and the kind of vibrant, outgoing soul who never met a stranger. Her laughter was loud and her heart even louder. From the time she was a little girl sneaking into neighbors' homes in search of ice cream, she brought joy, boldness, and an unforgettable presence wherever she went. The recent loss of her best friend and beloved mother, less than ten weeks ago, left a deep ache in Gwynne's heart, and while her mother's absence left an indescribable void, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her mother and family, resting in the arms of Jesus. Her siblings, nieces, and nephews will forever carry Gwynne's love and legacy in their hearts. She was the rock of the family - the glue that held everyone and everything together - and her loss is immeasurable. Gwynne and Jim spent the last 10 years proudly cheering on their boys during countless rugby matches. One of Gwynne's deepest heartbreaks after losing her mother was knowing she wouldn't be there to witness something incredibly special - Harrison and Garrett playing their very first rugby game together. This game will mark the first time they have ever taken the field side by side. Gwynne was so excited for this moment, and we know she will be there in spirit, cheering just as loudly as ever. "For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is."-Colossians 2:5 The family has chosen to celebrate her life in a way that truly reflects who she was, with her deep love and commitment to her family and the Memphis Rugby community. A Celebration of Life will be held following the University of Memphis vs. Tulane rugby game on Saturday, September 20th. Please join us in showing up for her boys with the same love and energy Gwynne always brought. Let's pack the stands for the game and then honor the incredible legacy she leaves behind.
