William F. Brown

Turners Falls, MA - William Francis Brown, of Turners Falls, MA, died on Saturday, November 16, 2025, after losing his battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Always a jokester, Bill's quick wit, his laugh, and his clever intellect remained with him to the end.

Bill was born on May 3, 1948, at the Farren Memorial Hospital, Montague City, MA, the son of the late Kenneth W. and Janice M. (Thompson). Bill spent his early life in Gill and Montague City and moved with his family to the village of Turners Falls as a young teenager. Bill was a 1966 graduate of Turners Falls High School, where he played baseball and basketball for four years and where, in recognition of his academic abilities, received a National Merit Letter of Commendation.

Bill was predeceased by his wife of 28 years, Patricia Ryan in 2022, and by his younger brother, Kenneth W. Brown in 2015. He is survived by his two stepsons, Rodney Neill of Turners Falls and Curtis Neill of Colrain. Survivors also include siblings Tedd (Diane), Doug (MaryLynne), Laurie, Sharon, Steve (Julie) and Kevin, and his sibling's 32 children and grandchildren.

Bill attended broadcasting school in Boston and worked for WHAI before he headed West to travel the United States. He ultimately returned to Turners Falls where he worked for Judd Wire for 39 years. His job allowed him to take full advantage of his love for travel and his love for all types of food.

Bill was a strong advocate for local athletics. He played on multiple teams in the Montague Community Men's Softball League, and his voice could be heard on many Thanksgivings doing the play-by-play for the annual Turners Falls/Greenfield "Turkey Day" game. His love for, and enjoyment of, his sibling's children and their grandchildren would often find him cheering from the sidelines (while enjoying a hot dog or two) while watching their baseball, football, Celtic dancing, and soccer events. He leaves behind many beneficiaries of his quiet generosity.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., Kostanski Funeral Home,1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls, followed by a burial at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.
