Elizabeth Pelis Obituary
Fitchburg, MA - Elizabeth "Betsy" Ellen Pelis, 74, of Fitchburg, MA, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, November 24, 2025.
Betsy was born on April 6, 1951, to the late Elizabeth (Mullins) and William Boyle of Hatfield, MA. Growing up in a farming family, Betsy developed a lifelong love of gardening that flourished throughout the years. Her home is surrounded by vibrant rows of vegetables, fragrant herbs, and bursts of colorful flowers each lovingly tended by Betsy. She shared her love of gardening with family and friends with fresh zucchini breads, cakes, homemade preserves and pies made by her hands. Her chocolate zucchini "Gramie cake" was a favorite of both family and friends every summer.
Betsy moved to Fitchburg, MA to pursue her calling in nursing at Fitchburg State College, where she earned both her Bachelor and then Master of Science in Nursing degrees. Dedicated to caring for others throughout her life, Betsy worked in the public health sector with visiting nurses before continuing her career as a psychiatric nurse at Burbank Hospital.
Betsy is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Wayne Dober" Pelis, son Nathan Pelis and wife Sarah Pelis, daughter Megan Pelis and husband Myles Jen Kin; and her cherished grandchildren Padraic Pelis, Henry Jen Kin, and Margo Jen Kin who brought her immeasurable joy. She also leaves behind her devoted Golden Retriever Baylee, sister Sharon Ann Lapointe and husband Carl, brother William Boyle, sister-in law Martha Schurch and husband Greg, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Calling hours will be held from 10:00 AM -11:30 AM on Saturday November 29, 2025, at the DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME OF NORTHAMPTON, MA. A prayer service will begin at 11:30 AM in the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Hatfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Betsy's memory to the Sterling Animal Shelter.
