Eugene Struckhoff Obituary

Eugene C. Struckhoff III

Enfield, NH - Eugene C. Struckhoff III - "Geno" to most - passed away on September 21, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on November 27, 1944, in Waterville, Maine, and raised in Concord, NH, he lived and worked in the Upper Valley, traveled extensively including Arizona and Montana, and lived his final years in Enfield, New Hampshire with his son. Geno was at peace with what came, and had time to express pride in a life well-lived and love for family and countless friends made in his travels.

Eugene was educated at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, studied American History at Princeton University, and received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Harvard Law School. At the age of 15, in 1959, he had his first open heart surgery at Boston Children's Hospital.

He often recounted colorful stories of his career as a trial attorney, including novel legal defenses, holding law enforcement accountable to the constitutional and legal rights of his clients, and having cases reach the highest courts. His friends included judges, police officers, prosecutors, and other professionals, but even more travelers he met along the road, Hell's Angels, hippies, immigrants, and people from every corner of society.

Geno was just as at home photographing wildlife in the mountain west and southwest, floating on his inflatable fishing boat in a lake hours from civilization, or sharing stories around a campfire, as he was discussing and learning about astronomy, physics, history, politics, the Constitution, and the law. He was perhaps more often found in hiking or fishing gear with his hair and beard wild, as in his signature double-breasted suits.

Geno was predeceased by his beloved wife, Cheryl A. Pushee Struckhoff (Carpenter); his father, Eugene C. Struckhoff II; and his mother, R. Norma Struckhoff.

He is lovingly remembered by his son, Ian C. Struckhoff, who lived with and cared for him late in life; his sister, Laura Cline, and her husband, Steve Cline; stepsons, Scott Pushee, and his wife, Sarah Pushee, and Eric Pushee; grandchildren, Eleanor Pushee, Logan Pushee, and Archer Pushee; as well as nephews, Aaron Cline and Peter Cline; and niece, Whitney Cline Miller.

A Celebration of Life will be held in 2026, to give his many friends time to gather from every corner of the continent. Loved ones are encouraged to request an invitation at https://genostruckhoff.com

Please consider donating in his honor to the ACLU of New Hampshire or your local chapter to honor his passion for the law and civil rights, to the Eugene Struckhoff fund at the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation co-founded by his father, or to the Sierra Club to honor his love of America's great outdoors.
