Ruth Truesdell

Lenox, MA - Ruth A. Truesdell, 88, of Lenox, Massachusetts, formerly of Becket, MA and Bushnell, FL, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, in Lenox. She was born on October 8, 1937, in Buckland, MA, the daughter of Henry P. and Rena V. Dandeneau.

Ruth was educated in San Leandro, CA and Shelburne Falls, MA and was a proud graduate of the former Arms Academy. She later married the love of her life, Richard H. Truesdell.

A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Ruth was also a trailblazer. She became one of the first female newspaper reporters for the Athol Daily News, a role that sparked her interest in local government. Drawing on her reporting experience, she went on to hold several town offices and ultimately earned the honor of serving as the first female selectman of Buckland, MA-a position she held for many years and one of her proudest accomplishments.

Despite her many achievements, Ruth's greatest joy was found in motherhood. She cherished raising her children and extended her compassion to others, serving as a maternal figure and caregiver to children facing challenges within their own families. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others touched many lives.

Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Richard H. Truesdell, and her daughter, Jane M. Raymond.

She leaves behind her sons Neil Raymond and his wife Cindy of Lee, Richard H. Truesdell II and his wife Ruth of Orange, and her stepdaughter Karen Markert and her husband Robert of Rowe. Ruth is also lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held at the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA on December 10, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date for family.
