Nancy Grandine

Lyme, NH - Nancy Elizabeth Grandine, 75, passed away at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon on November 26, 2025, after a long period of health challenges. She was an integral part of the Lyme community and will be dearly missed. In her final days, she received visits from family and close friends who expressed their love and gratitude on behalf of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Born March 4, 1950, near Tonawanda, New York, to Joseph, a research chemist, and Florence (Rouillard), a homemaker, Nancy graduated from Wellesley (MA) High School and spent many summers as an enthusiastic counselor and involved alumna at Camp Hochelaga in South Hero, Vermont. She received her A.B. in Government from Smith College in 1972 (spending her junior year abroad in Switzerland), and earned a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where she was on the faculty for two years. Nancy moved to New Hampshire in 1979, initially boarding with Lyme's Whittemore sisters, Pauline and Ruth, and thereby befriending the Waste and Murphy families, forming close bonds that have lasted for decades.

She established The Law Office of Nancy Elizabeth Grandine from her home on Union Street, where she worked for twenty years with her longtime friend and confidante, Carol Boynton of Orford. While a practicing lawyer, she was also on the faculty of Vermont Law School (1979-1987) and a business analyst for CRREL in Hanover (2011-2015).

During her 45 years in Lyme, Nancy served as an elected official and volunteer in many capacities, most notably as Overseer of the Public Welfare and Assistant Town Moderator; as a vital member and frequent officeholder at Lyme Congregational Church, and as a trustee of Converse Free Library (where she was first a volunteer, typing information onto index cards for the catalog). Along with her legal acumen, Nancy was known for her empathy and kindness and especially for her love of dogs. She owned many golden retrievers and black labs over the years, each one a beloved companion occupying a special place in her heart.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Jonathan. She is survived by her brother, Daniel, of Plymouth, MA; niece, Andrea, and nephew, Andrew; and a circle of close friends too numerous to mention.

Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover is handling arrangements. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Acton, MA, beside her parents and brother. A memorial service in early 2026 at the Lyme Congregational Church will be announced at a later date.
