Donald Dumais Obituary

Donald William Dumais

Hillsboro, NH - Donald William Dumais, 92, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Hillsboro House Nursing Home after a period of declining health.

Donald was born on November 28, 1933, at the family home in Deering, New Hampshire. He was the son of the late William J Dumais and Louise J. (Putnam) Dumais. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Melody P. (Bumford) Dumais; his infant son, David M Dumais; his sister, Barbara (Dumais) Robbins; and his brother, James G Dumais.

Donald attended Hillsboro-Deering schools and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War. After returning home, he continued his service as a member of the National Guard.

He met the love of his life in his hometown of Hillsboro, New Hampshire, and they were married in 1955. Together, they shared 60 years of marriage and built a life centered on family, service and community.

Alongside his father, Bill Dumais, he built the business WM. J. Dumais and Son Plumbing and Heating. Donald also served the communities of Hillsboro and Deering as Chief of Police, served on the Deering Fire Department and worked as an Animal Control Officer. During his years with the Hillsboro Highway Department, many came to know him affectionately as the "Grader Man."

Donald spent countless hours tending his vegetable garden, mowing his lawn, hunting, fishing, plowing snow, and puttering around his garage. He loved collecting treasures and always knew exactly where everything was. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished time spent with family and was happiest when everyone was gathered around him. His devotion to each of his grandchildren was truly special. A proud papa, he was always present and the loudest cheerleader in the crowd, whether at basketball games, horse shows, or band and chorus concerts. He had a determined personality, playful antics, and a heart of gold.

Donald is survived by his son, William W. Dumais (and wife Debby) of Deering; daughters Diane L. Graziano (and husband Kyle) of Newbury, Donna L. Grady (and husband Martin) of Contoocook, and Deanna P. Cote (and husband Michael) of Hillsboro; and his sisters Teresa Parker of Hillsboro, Darlene McHale of Bertram, Texas, and Linda Lawson of Henniker. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

On behalf of our family, we extend our deepest gratitude to the staff of Hillsboro House Nursing Home for their compassionate and dedicated care they provide during his final year. We also thank Arlene for her friendship and kindness during his time there.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at a date to be determined.

Although I've been retired for 12 years, I believe Don and his wife were patients of mine at Concord Orthopaedics. I have fond memories of them when I see his face. My condolences to you.
