Margaret L. Southworth

Hanover, NH - Margaret Southworth (Peg) passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026. She was born on November 14, 1930 in Thetford, Vt., the daughter of Rose (Amell) Fifield and Glen Fifield. She was pre-deceased by her eight older siblings: Dorothy (Bacon), Everett, Kaye (Riley), George, Doris (Cowden), Rodney, Bernard, and John.

Peg grew up in Thetford Center, Vt. and enjoyed horseback riding and activities by the river under the covered bridge. She graduated with honors from Thetford Academy where she played basketball and softball and later attended Lyndon State Teachers College. In 1951 she married the love of her life, James, and they settled in Norwich, Vt. They raised four children and owned Southworth's Garage (eventual Subaru dealership) and Jimmar Realty. She was involved in many community activities: school volunteer, Meals on Wheels, Sunday School (Norwich Congregational Church), and Sweet Adelines (women's choral group). Peg was an excellent cook and prepared many delicious meals for family and friends over the years. She was always willing to bake for someone in need. She was a frequent carpool driver and transported many students between Norwich and Hanover High School.

In later years she spent summers on Lake Morey and winters in Fort Myers and Port Charlotte, Florida. She and Jim enjoyed a variety of golf experiences at the Lake Morey Resort and Del Tura Country Club. They were very active wherever they lived and enjoyed many lasting friendships.

Peg is survived by her children: Thomas of Dover, NH and Fairlee, David and wife Amy of Shelburne, Vt., Brian and wife Kathy of Jericho, Vt., and Kathryn and husband Steve Lundahl of Canterbury, NH. She had seven grandchildren: Jeff, Lydia, Ryan, Caitlyn, Alexandra, Anders, and Malia, and three great grandchildren: Aspyn, Emma and Madelyn. She is also survived by her cousin, Dawson Fifield and his wife Carol, plus many nieces and nephews and Jim's extended family.

Her kind spirit and sense of humor will always be remembered.
