Donald Brown Obituary

Donald Brown

Concord, NH - Donald O. Brown, of Concord, passed away peacefully on January 05, 2026 from complications of Alzheimer's/Dementia.

Don was born September 17, 1946 in Goffstown, NH. He grew up in New Boston, NH and graduated from West High School, Manchester, NH.

He entered the USAF at the height of the Vietnam War and was stationed at Torrejon, AB Spain where he performed as a radio communications specialist. Upon the end of his tour he returned to New Hampshire with his then wife Melody Whitcher-Johnke of Winett, Montana and son Scott. He enrolled in Keene State College to earn a B.S. in Industrial Arts and Science.

Upon graduation he moved to Wilmot, NH to take up his first teaching job at Kearsarge Regional High School. During the summer months he and Melody were Park Rangers at Winslow State Park on Mount Kearsarge for several years. He finished his teaching career at Hillsboro-Deering High School where he taught photography, CAD/CAM technologies and printing.

Throughout life he had a love of being on the water and was never far from it. Whether it be floating down a river with a Boy Scout Troop or sailing the Atlantic coast from Florida to Canada with long time friend Mike Zotto of Bradford, NH.

Retired life would find Don moving to Waldoboro, Maine with wife Loren to enjoy the seacoast.

He never met a stranger he could not talk to. He had a quick sense of humor, and willingness to provide assistance to neighbors in need at a moment's notice.

He is survived by his two children; USAF MSgt (ret) Scott Brown and wife Allison of Dresden, Maine and Eric Brown of Warren, New Hampshire; Grandchildren Lindz and Sarah, Sister Laurel Stillwell of Burlington, VT; Brother David Brown of Stevensville, Montana; Melody Whitcher-Johnke, mother of Scott and Eric, and Long Term Partner and dear friend Bette Fredrickson of Sutton, NH.

He is predeceased by his loving wife of twelve years Loren Hoffman

Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Donald is better off for his presence in their lives.

Donald and Loren's cremains will be interred together at the New Hampshire State Veteran's Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at Wadleigh State Park where Don and Loren had their 1st date later this summer.

Sorry to hear of Don's passing. He was my shop teacher in several classes, We both worked on a steamer to bend the wood to make a toboggan for my project many years ago.

This news deeply saddens Marilyn and me. We had many hours of laughter, from Boothbay to Waldoboro to New Hampshire, which we will never forget.

Don's legacy of love and kindness will live on in our hearts.
