Maureen Marcotte Obituary

Maureen B. Marcotte

Newport, NH - On Monday, February 23, 2026, Maureen Barbara (Onnela) Marcotte, of Newport, New Hampshire, loving wife of John "Jack" Marcotte passed away at the age of 84. She was the daughter of the late Robert Eino Onnela and Katherine Fay (Sullivan) Onnela. She was born on May 18, 1941 in Dover, New Hampshire, as her parents were attending the University of New Hampshire. They moved back to Newport, to the home her father and grandfather built.

Maureen graduated from Towle High School and attended Keene State College. She returned to Newport and worked various jobs such as a telephone operator, a paraprofessional at the Sunapee Central School, and a librarian at the Towle Elementary School. She was a lifetime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Maureen and Jack married in 1961 and they raised their family in Newport, daughter Melinda "Mindy" Rae and their son, Christopher John.

Maureen could frequently be found "running the roads," out for breakfast, pizza with the ladies, or anytime for an ice cream cone. She was an extremely kind, caring, and generous woman who loved to chat and knew everyone's name. She loved QVC, Shark Tank, a trip to the casino and Powerball. She was always up for an outing and a world traveler. Maureen was an outdoors girl who loved cross country or downhill skiing, snowmobiling, and a beautiful figure skater! She also loved spending time at their cottage at Rocky Bound Pond in Croydon, New Hampshire with her family.

Maureen was predeceased by her husband, John Marcotte and her sister, Roberta Lynne Millwood. She leaves behind her children, Mindy (Philip) Newcomb and Chris (Kelly) Marcotte, two granddaughters, Malory (Jeremy) Tetreault, Meredith (Tyler) Wilcox, two great-grandsons, Lawson and Mack, two great-granddaughters, Andi and Hazel, her brother Kevin (Debbie) Onnela, her sister-in-law, Mary McGowen, and all her very special nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call on Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Newton-Barlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, in Newport, New Hampshire.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Church at 11 AM on Saturday May 30, 2026 with a committal service for Maureen and Jack to follow at North Newport Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the American Heart Association, the Newport Area Association of Churches, or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Arrangements are entrusted to Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home.
