Hello,
We wanted to let your family and friends know that we are sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and some of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Todd J. Bolding US Marine Lance Corporal.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

I came to this site after reading the book Joker One and am amazed at all the love and good will poured toward Todd, his family and and his brothers in 2/4. Being Memorial Day weekend I felt compelled to leave a message of gratitude and respect. Thank you for your service, sacrifice and for touching the lives of everyone who has read about you or knew you in person. My own son is currently serving in Joker 2 so this has touched me in ways I have not anticipated. Fair winds and following seas Marine. Semper Fi

Todd,
Every day since I found out that you paid the ultimate sacrafice, I have always thought about you. We were friends in highschool, only to meet up in the same unit a few years down the road. You were one of my best friends in 2/4 and you always motivated me to keep my head up no matter how big the Bad days were. I love you Brother, and I miss you so much. Rest well."

I'm reading the book Joker One in order to prepare to present it to my Future Correctional Leaders class, therefore, I learned about Cpl., Bolding, I wanted to use this opportunity to send words of comfort to his family by letting them know I appreciate his courage, what he stood for and he put protecting our freedom before his plans for his own life. What a blessing to know how special he was. Please find peace in knowing he is in a better place, an angel protecting us from above.

I am a history teacher in St. Louis, MO and I teach 9th grade U.S. History and an 11th/12th grade Modern Warfare elective. Since the book Joker One came out, I have assigned it to these two classes. To date, about 300 students have read the story of your son's dedication to the United States of America. We talk in class about the sacrifice soldiers today make for our country. Your son's story of sacrifice is making a difference in the lives of young people and I personally want to give my condolences for your loss.

Dear Bolding Family,
I remember when I first heard about Lance Cpl. Bolding in the news several years ago I prayed in earnest for his life. I am blessed to read about him in the book "Joker One" and my heart grieves now that I know who he was and his story. I can picture his smile and imagine his charisma. Scriptures say, "No one has greater love (no one has shown stronger affection) than to lay down his own life for his friends (Jn 15:13)" In his short life, Todd has completed his purpose to the end...he has showed us his courage and his great love.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Bolding and family,
I was stationed with Todd for the last 2 years of my enlistment. I was discharged after Todd's first deployment to Okinawa. It was an absolute priveledge to have known him. He touched everyone he came in contact with. He lifted spirits with his sense of humor and helped others with his compassion and knowledge. He was one of our greatest Marines and will always be one of my favorites. It is an honor to be able to call him a friend and he will be deeply missed.

This is a Poem I wrote about Todd
A Hero
You were my friend
You were my soldier
Only 23, never older
Why did you have to go
Why did you leave this place
I cry out now,
the tears stream down my face
You gave your life
all you had to give
I write these words so you live
A Marine so proud and strong
You died in a land
you did not belong
We lay you to rest on this hot summer day
but now you are home and here to stay.

"My son is a Seabee in the U.S. Navy and is preparing to deploy to Iraq; my nephew is in the Marines currently serving in Fallujah. Everyday when I hear another soldier has been injured or killed, it cuts straight to my heart. Somehow, when it's someone from Texas or close to home, it seems all the more personal -- almost like my own family.
I have no idea what your family is going through, but I can assure you that I have shed many tears for you and am lifting up prayers for you all. After hearing about what happened to Todd from my sister, a Marine Mom, I had to come to this site and leave you a message. Thank you for the tremendous sacrifice you have all made. I pray that God gives you the strength to make it through this difficult time until you are reunited with Todd in heaven.
Todd J. Bolding, you are a true hero, a shining example of all that is good in America today. Thank you Todd, for your service to our country, for your willingness to go to another country -- to take the fight over there that we might be safer here at home on our own soil, for having the courage to get up each morning to do a job knowing that you might not make it through the day, and for making the ultimate sacrifice that you have made -- for your friends and family and for millions of people who you never got the chance to meet. May God rest your soul."

I have twin sons that served in Iraq with your son. I know they had been together since SOI and considered him a good friend. We all feel so much pain with this loss. If there is ANYTHING I can do please contact me. Your family will be in my daily prayers.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Bolding,
I want to send my sincere condolences for the loss of your son. No words can accurately convey my deep sorrow for your loss.
My son is currently serving with the Marines in Iraq. I look at our young Marines and I am so proud. Their courage and unselfish sacrifice are an inspiration. Without people, like our sons, our country would not enjoy the freedoms we enjoy.
Your son is an American hero and an inspiration. His dedication, love of country, and sacrifice apparent. With an aching heart I thank you Todd for your unselfish committment in securing freedom, not only for your country, but for those who have never enjoyed the freedom so graciously bestowed upon us by God. God bless you Todd! Semper Fidelis!"

God Knows
You have my deepest sympathy,
but it really doesn't help.
Your grief goes beyond
what words can express.
There's nothing anyone can say,
and nothing we can do
to heal your broken heart
or take away your pain.
Let God take you in His arms
and cover you with His love.
He knows the depth of your grief
and only He can give you peace.
He knows it will take time
for your heart to heal, and
your loved one has a place
that no one else can fill.
If there's any comfort let it be in this,
your loved one is with Jesus,
in a home that's filled with bliss.
There are no tears in Heaven,
no more heartache and no pain,
only love and happiness
for all eternity.
We must go on living and
do the best we can,
then when Jesus calls our name
we will be with them again.

To the family, may God allow His peace, grace and mercy to rest, rule and abide this day and the ones to come. Todd was the cousin I never met. I'm sure he was a great man, son, brother and friend.
2Timothy 4:7-8
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.
God bless and keep the entire family.
