I served in delta company with mark. He was a fantastic person and was one of my best friends. It ripped my heart out when he died after being evacuated. The entire company thought he would make it when they got him back to the states. If anyone could connect me with his parents it would be greatly appreciated. I miss him every day.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Engel Family know that we recently made a small donation to the Fisher House Foundation in honor of Mark E. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Mark, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Engle:
I am also a friend of Jodie Susi and am writing in the hope that you can take comfort in the fact that others support you during this time of your loss and grief.
I have a 19 year old son and cannot imagine losing him. It seems that the natural order of life should be that children outlive parents. I believe that losing a child is the most profound loss a family can face.
Mark's sacrifice of his life in service in the military is a noble and heartful expression of love for our country. We appreciate and respect that sacrifice.
Our very best to your family. My prayer is that God will bless you and give you comfort each and every day of your life.

Dearest Mr. and Mrs. Engle,
I am deeply sorry for the loss of your son Mark. Not many people have this chance to express their sympathies.
My Husband is a Member of Delta Company with 2nd LAR. He is a Sergeant in Weapons Platoon and is also currently in Iraq. He has also sent his deepest sympathies.
Right below me here is Libby Frye. She Sponsored your son while he served in Iraq during this latest deployment. I had started a Sponsoring program for my husbands platoon which spread through all of Delta Company. It has been an honor of mine to get these Great Men of Delta Sponsors.
Mark is truly a Hero. He will never be forgotten. Not by me. I would like to thank you for your son. He will always be remembered as one who fought and died for my families freedoms as well as my own and again... I am deeply sorry for your loss.
With the deepest of Heart Felt Sympathies....
Mrs. Denise L. Bradley
Wife of a United States Marine.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Engel and family,
I've been trying to get a mailing address for you for almost two weeks. I will send a personal note if at all possible.
Through information I got from a church friend, I "adopted" Mark in June. I fear he never got my packages, cards and letters because of the date of his injury. I picked his name because my youngest son also was "LNCL Mark E." when he was a Marine 1987-1991. I hope he knew that someone outside his family cared for him deeply.
I wanted you to know that I have truly grieved for your fine son. There was an column about him and one of his friends in our local paper (The Star News) yesterday, August 1.
Like the first person in this guest book, I understand your suffering. Our family lost two sons in the '80's in separate car accidents.
Please accept my deepest sympany. I have been praying for you and your family.
Sincerely,
Fred Beisser

We are so sorry to hear of your son's death. There is nothing more tragic than the loss of a child, and our hearts and prayers go out to you. Mark was a friend of mine who I met through the Rugby team about four years ago. Although he went to a different high school than us, we all became good friends and would hang out a lot. I enjoyed watching him dominate in Rugby. I remember I took a 3 hour lunch break (on the clock) from my work to watch him and the other guys win the rugby state championship. I enjoyed haning out with Mark, shooting pool, talking about football. I miss those days, and I miss Mark. You're in my prayers bud, see you, and God bless.
