To the Collins Family....we read about the passing of Lance Cpl Jonathan Collins in the Pipefitters UA journal.,,,and the campaign of the Collins family to provide troop boxes. Jonathan would be very proud of his family....you are carrying his memory on through your efforts. My son served in Afghanistan and Iraq..so, we are all family. Dear family of Lance Cpl. Jonathan W. Collins,
We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.

I saw a semi trailer in Gurnee, IL that honored Lance Cpl Collins and I had to learn more. What a very touching way to honor a fallen hero. God bless you and all our service men and women. My thoughts and prayers are with the Collins family.

I had the honor to work with John at American Pie. Hearing his stories about swim meets, sharing the responsibility of holding Allanah, stories of saving goals for the soccer team, and listening to the positive things he said. John was a truely great person who I will never forget.

I met John a few times throughout his time at St Mike's in Livonia and a few times when he would visit his old friends back in Michigan, many of them were friends of mine, and also my cousin Doug Bechard, and I just want to say that I know he is sorely missed when I talk to the people who had known him since the early grade school days. I, and also my cousin Doug Bechard, am a fellow US Marine, and every loss of a Marines life is a loss of a brother, and this is especially true in John's case. I was very saddened to open my Penny Saver to the Cookies & Chaos column and see Jonathan's picture in there. His grandma wrote about him frequently and he became like a member of our family. Our son served in the USMC until last year,so Marines are dear to our hearts.
My prayers are with his family. What a special person he must have been in order to serve our country at such a young age.
We will continue to send things over to the soldiers who are serving in Iraq and in Afghanistan in memory of Jonathan.
