We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this month and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Nicanor "Nick" Alvarez US Marine Corporal.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

I remember the first time we met like the back of my hand on November 3, 2000, and I never thought our lives would turn out the way it did. Everything I am now I owe to you but, the only thing missing in my life is you Nick my husband.
I finally did it! I did it all for you just like you’ve always wanted me to. I graduated from the University in dedication to you- Nicanor Alvarez. It didn’t hit me till the ride home of what seemed like a long battle and journey. I had just completed my last final and was riding the motorcycle on my way home when all of a sudden the tears started to flow and realized something. It was always about you, I never wanted to let go the promise I made to you and it was you that was supposed to be there watching me graduate. Then I thought now what? I suppose this is where I start my life after five years since your death, my own goals because the one I was living was yours.
There hasn’t a day gone by where I haven’t thought about you and the life I was robbed. There are so many words racing in my mind of the perfect things to tell you but, I’ll save the best for the next time I see you. My emotions and aspirations are overwhelming on how proud I am to call you my husband. The world is a scary place since you left, or perhaps I felt secure the most when you had me in your arms protecting me.
You have taught me a lot Nick, on how never to give up even though the road maybe bumpy. I am now a counselor here because of your dreams and on my way to a PhD soon because of your dream for me.

Sandra, if you ever read this just know you are thought about and my prayers are still with you. It's been 4 years, but I know it must seem like yesterday for you. I hope you are healthy and doing good. My husband did three tours and got out Aug. 2007. When I last wrote in this entry in 2005 we were still dating. I think how hard is must be to go through what you have and it makes me still so grateful that my husband came home safely. My heart goes out to those who didn't get to come home. Antes que nada deseo expresarles mi más sentido pésame por la pérdida de su ser querido. El dolor y el vacío que deja el fallecimiento de alguien a quien amamos es algo que nunca desaparece pero puede aliviarse un poco cuando aprendemos y ponemos fe en las promesas de Dios. Es por eso que quiero compartir con la familia de Nicanor un pensamiento bíblico.
Estando aquí en la tierra Jesús prometió: “Así como el Padre levanta a los muertos y los vivifica, así el Hijo también vivifica a los que él quiere. […] No se maravillen de esto, porque viene la hora en que todos los que están en las tumbas conmemorativas oirán su voz [la de Jesús] y saldrán”. (Juan 5: 21, 28, 29.) ¡Qué gran alivio es saber que Jehová dios ha dado el poder a su hijo Jesucristo para devolver la vida a aquellos que la han perdido en la muerte! Podemos tener la plena seguridad de que en un futuro cercano, Nicanor escuchará la voz de Jesús y volverá a vivir.

To the family of Nicanor Alvarez- I have previously posted an entry in this guest book and now I would like to add, that while I did not know him, I did receive a wonderful letter from him while he was serving in Iraq. One simple letter that spoke volumes about the sort of young man that he was. His sense of humor and love of family was revealed in every word. It was the best letter I've ever read. I shall cherish it always. I just wanted his family to know that. He must truly have been a most remarkable person to have touched my heart so - with only pen and paper.

As a family member of a US Marine it is with deep sympathy that I write and share in the loss of one of America's finest. The pain and sorrow cuts deep, but knowing your son, husband, father served his country and did it well may follow this country for many year.
