Your Nephew

March 12, 2025

Hey Steven, I really wish I had gotten the chance to meet you. It´s been almost 21 years since you passed, I was only 2. It´s a strange feeling to miss someone you´ve never met but growing up hearing so many stories about you it´s hard to not feel like I know you. Seems it´s been around 7 years since someone has made an entry here so I figured since I stumbled upon it I should at least say hi. I realized today I´m older than you in a way and I´m not sure I like that feeling but the fact you were able to impact so many peoples hearts in just 21 years gives me faith that maybe I can do the same. I have a sense we might have felt similar about quite a lot, might have even been best friends though you´d be twice my age... I look forward to being able to test that thought whenever god does call me up. I guess the main reason for this message is that I just wanted to say thank you. My biggest step toward becoming something better was because of your advice, if that´s what you´d call it. I´m not sure how many people I´ve ever really told but how many people would believe the dead uncle you never met came to you in a dream and told you to straighten up. I´d probably be clinically insane if it wasn´t for that. I think about it often, I´m not sure I´ve fully lived up to it but I got time to keep trying. You said you had become the man you wanted to be, I hope that´s true, and I´m hoping eventually I can feel that way too. Thank you for having watched over me as you have all this time. I´ll continue to try and be whatever it is I´m supposed to be so I can carry your spirit as far as I possibly can. I hope you´re doing well.

I just wanted you and your family to know that I am thinking of you on the Memorial Day weekend. My wish for this Memorial Day is that every American will take just a minute or two and say a little prayer for you and all of our Military.
I was in touch with your Mom over the years, but it has been a while. I honor her for being such a wonderful mother and just for being her. I enjoyed emailing with her.
HEROES NEVER DIE. THEY LIVE IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER. I truly do believe this. You will remain in my heart until the time comes that I am where you are. What a day that will be. I will be hunting down a whole lot of you and getting some great hugs.

It seems only fitting that I stop by today to let you know I am thinking of you on this Fourth of July. If not for you, your brothers in arms, our veterans, and all branches of the Military, I doubt we would be living the way we are today. We are able to live free because of you. Freedom of speech, religion, and all of the little taken for granted things like walking your dog, buying groceries, going to the beach or mountains, we are able to do because of you.
Thank you doesn't seem enough. I will Honor you for the rest of my life. I Will Never Forget.

Just wanted to stop by today, Memorial Day, and say hi and let you know that you are still in my heart and will always be remembered and never forgotten.

“The Final Roll Call”

We thought of you with love today
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence
We often speak your name.

Now all we have are memories
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake
With which we'll never part
God has you in His keeping
We have you in our Heart.

Dear Steve,
We think of you often. Our children knew you at UPC. We bank at Verity and as we go through the drive through I can see your resting place. We drive over to stand with you occasionally.
Mary still weeps at your loss. You two were not that close. But, you made an impact on her. When she has struggles.. she goes to talk it over with you. She occasionally brings "gifts" for the coyote. Mostly, she comes to talk.. you know, you were always the best one to talk to, you could always make a person laugh, even if they felt like crying.
I pray for your family. I want them to know you will NEVER be forgotten.
I hope that Stacy gets plenty of stories of your antics. You must be making them laugh in Heaven.
You brought Honor to both of your Mothers. You were quite a man.
I know God has you safe in His Hands.

I can't believe 4 years have passed with you not here. It seems like forever, but then not. Somedays it is so hard, and others, I do fine. I am thankful that I am to the point where I can smile when I think of growing up with you and all the things we got into. And I am thankful that I was able to have you in my life for the 18 years of mine. I still think about you all the time, and now that I have a son, I think the hardest times are when I think Elijah missing out on knowing his Uncle! I just know that I have to continue to tell him about you so he'll feel like he does know you! I love you and still miss you like crazy!

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Steven, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

On Saturday, June 14th (Flag Day) there will be an event in Topeka, KS called The Reading. Volunteers will be reading the names of the fallen from Iraq and Afghanistan. I'll be Reading Cpl. Rintamaki's name. Each Reader is given a page of 50 names - first name, middle initial, last name, date of death and home state. After each name a bell will toll. The event is expected to take approximately 6 hours to complete. It's important the family know of this event in memory of their loved one. Thank you Cpl. Rintamaki for your service to our country. I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. You haven't been forgotten. My condolences to his family and friends.

Steve,
I think about you often, your smile, your spirit, strength, compassion and the ability to turn any situation into something positive. You are by far one of the most outstanding people I have ever known. I met you when we were silly teens messing around, being young dumb and free, a privilege that most people take for granted, thanks to you and others just like you, America is free and will continue to be. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you and I will always keep your family in my prayers. I remember you asking me to keep the letter that your birth mother sent you before you left for boot camp and I still have it. I was honored that you asked me to do such a thing for you. I still can't believe your gone even though it's been 3 1/2 years. Every life that you touched was made better by knowing you Steve. You were the brother I never had and my son adored every moment he spent just hanging out with "Uncle Steve." My husband was heading to Iraq when I found out you were killed and nothing could have shook me more. I know you died doing exactly what you wanted to do with your life and you are a forever memorialized hero. To fight for what is right, regardless of the consequences is the hardest task to take and you accomplished your goal with ease and laughter. Mike, my husband, has now done three tours of the good ol' sandbox and I know that he came home safe with the help of your watchful eye. Thank you for the time I had in your presence, the time that I know you've given me since you've gone to heaven and all the amazing things you did in your life. Semper Fi, God bless you and your family always,

I remember very clearly hearing from Byron in September of 2004 and him telling me how devastated he was by the loss of a fine Marine and fellow brother that day. I never learned that Marine's name until recently - Steven Rintamaki. I would have loved to hear all about you once Byron came home, but he never did. He was killed shortly after you on November 13th. I know you guys are probably together now, and I can't wait to see you some day. Thank you for your service and sacrifice to our country. It has been three years, feels like yesterday. We will never forget.

August 6, 2007

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

To the family and friends

I have only just begun this journey and may not have known your loved one personally.

I extend to you my deepest condolences. No words will ever express the grief those close to this lost treasure are feeling. I can only say that I can share this grief as I too lost a loved one July 8, 2006. I will continue to pray for the safety of our soldiers and especially the family and friends of our lost hero’s. I only hope the memories will carry us through. I will continue pray that you also will believe and know that our heavenly father will not give us more than we can handle.

As always I read (and cry) through the memorials of our lost hero’s, So many people have already expressed the things I would also say. I am amazed and take comfort that so many people care. I can only thank you for the sacrifice you and especially Steven have made to protect our country. As others have said “I am only an email away.” I would be honored if you so choose to share about this fine soldier.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Myra and family,

I just viewed April's website for Steven - it is so very nice. When I read the article about Steven's life, I could not help but see a little bit of my Justin in Steven.

Please know that he will never be forgotten and you will also always be in my thoughts.

Steven was one of the best friends I had as a child, I remember how silly we were. Steven could make any situation funny, even if we were in the principals office. His smile and character will be with me for life. He was a great man with a heart so pure. I honor his sacrifice and will live each day knowing that his life was ended for me and the lives of us americans. So that our kids will not have to worry in the years to come. May the lord bless him and accept him as a great man. And give him a seat in heaven with the full blessings and honor he deserves. Bless his family as they are pure in heart and raised a wonderful man whom I can share in my heart and that his memory will be with us all forever

god bless you steven

thanks,

Bishara

Hey Big Brother, It's me. I was just having a moment thinking of you as I do every day. It's so hard for me not to have you here. You kept me together and I could always count on you for anything. The only thing that keeps me going is to think of what advice you would give me. You were the greatest brother and I wouldn't trade our closeness for anything. I miss you everyday and I still cry whenever I think of you. Soon enough I will be able to see you in heaven, but until then I know that you are watching over me and guiding me on my journey through life. I love you more than anything and I wish you would've know that before you left. Deep down I know you did, but I never told you. I miss you and I love you.

Love,

Your little sis, Tiarrah

BUt it is hard to keep going. those I setved with I LOVE , but the 10-15 of us that were more than jsut brothers in the corps, I have never loved like that in my life . My children are the only other people I think I have that love and bond with. I AM SO SORRY I WAS NOT THERE FOR YOU. It really should have been me. I am Sorry . It should be you and Jaqi not me. Rin, it has been almost a year and I just found this page. I wanted to sign up and let you know somethings. Carrying your flag drapped coffin and going through your funeral is the hardest thing I will ever have to do in my life. I wish it had of been me , not you. Everyday I struggle to go on , the guilt of not being there for you is almost unbearable. I have a son and a daughter now I wish you could meet them. someday when they are old enough I will tell them of my Brother and the hero he was and how he died to keep them safe. T-Bone and I are getting together on the anniversary to honor you again. I am so sorry brother I should have been there for you. I got to meet your family and friends at the funeral they were outstanding. They welcomed me in like one of the family. Your mother at the visitation cleared out the viewing room for me to spend sometime alone with you. I sorry I wasn't there when you really needed me. alway know I love you like my own children. Someday we will reunite and guard the streets of heaven together and there will be no more pain. SEMPER FI MY BROTHER.
