Mike,
I knew you as a Marine. I knew you as someone to look up to. The majority of our enlisted time together we were ranked as equals. I never saw it that way. I saw you as someone to be able to lean on and depend on. You were the strongest person I have ever known and I will never forget the things you helped me achieve.
You are one man of great promise I will never forget, 2nd Lieutenant Felsberg. You are forever sketched in my mind and heart.

Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Happy Birthday, Michael. We think of you often and speak of you even more. You are always close. Here is an example. A few weeks ago we were in church when the son of the couple that sits in front of us was home on leave. Jamie turned and said he had something to tell us. It seems that when he was stationed in Italy,(he's a Captain in the Army), he was sitting at a table at an outdoor cafe with an older officer. Jamie noticed he was wearing a memorial bracelet and asked whose name was on the bracelet. He told him, Paul Michael Felsberg. Jamie was taken back and for a moment couldn't speak. The officer noticed Jamie's expression and asked what was the matter. Jamie asked him how he knew you. The officer said he had been your track coach in high school. Jamie smiled and said, he " sat in front of his aunt and uncle in church and grew up with his cousin Charles". They both had a great conversation after that. You just made the world a little bit smaller and a little bit nicer. We miss you terribly. Give our love to the rest of the family and keep some for yourself. Love,
Aunt Mary Lynn

To the Felsberg Family,
I'm honored to have served with a outstanding Marine such as your son. I met Paul on board the USS Kittyhawk MARDET. I'm sad to learn of his passing, together we shared some good times. Competing for best PT, rifle range, pistol scores. On deployment spent libo time in Singapore and Tasmania. I knew some day he would become a individual we all could admire, I knew you as a Private when I was a Lance Corporal and I'm proud of your accomplishment of the Officer Grade you obtained. May you rest in peace, Semper Fi!

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To Paul's Family and Friends:

On this Memorial Day weekend, I'd like you to know there are many Americans thinking about the sacrifices of the armed services soldiers and their families. While nothing can fill the void left in your soul from Paul's passing, I pray you are able to find solace in knowing that Paul was lost to a worthy cause of bringing freedom and democracy to the oppressed people of Iraq. As I read the other tributes to Paul, my impulse is to thank you for raising such a fine person as Paul. America has lost a great man.

To the family of 2ndLt Mike Felsberg,

There are no amount of words that can describe Mike's dedication to his family, country, and Corps. I was fortunate enough to be one of Mike's instructors at TBS, not two doors down from his SPC, Capt McClam. Mike came to us not long before he volunteered to be a combat replacement and asked for advice. His biggest concern wasn't whether or not he should go straight into combat, but rather the impact it would have on his family and if his decisions were driven by selflessness, a standard we tried to develop in all of our officers. I was proud of the maturity he displayed, as well as, his sincere commitment to keeping our country safe. I am currently serving in another part of the world so I received the news a bit late in a dated Stars and Stripes. Nothing could have hit me harder at that particular moment as I knew the amount of pain and heartache that followed. He is respected and missed by all the Marines in Quantico and abroad. A true American Fighting Hero who has carried on the fine traditions of the United States Marine Corps and all of those who have gone before. I sincerely hope these messages of sympathy, gratitude, and love reach you all in a way that will help preserve Michael’s life in our memories forever.

Dear Felsberg Family,

My sincere condolences to your family on the loss of Mike. I had the pleasure of serving with Mike in Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines from 1997-1999, when Mike was Cpl Felsberg and I was 2ndLt Rhodes. Mike was a heck of a good Marine. I was a platoon commander, and it is easy for me to remember your son as a smart, dedicated, hard-working leader (who could always run me into the ground!)

I have since left the Marine Corps, but stay in touch with my brothers. It was through this brotherhood, of which your son will eternally be a part, that I heard of your loss. I can only offer you my deepest gratitude for your son's service, and my prayers that somehow during this time of loss you will find comfort and peace in the Lord.

God bless you and yours, and God bless our troops.

Semper Fidelis,

October 31, 2004

To Mike's family I offer my most sincere and heartfelt condolences. You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers for years to come. I was Mike's platoon commander at Camp Pendleton when he was an enlisted Marine. I remember him well. He was a great Marine with a steady confidence that the younger men in his squad were drawn to. He was never too busy to help out one of the young guys in his charge and always showed genuine concern for their well being. He naturally put others before himself. I received an e-mail from him last summer before he deploy to Iraq. He was very excited to come over here, and I thought about how fortunate the Marines of his platoon must be to get a leader like him as a platoon commander. He shall remain in my memory, Semper Fidelis.

October 27, 2004

To The Family of 2ndLt Felsberg:

I, and many of my fellow Lieutenants, were extremely shaken by news of the loss of Lt Felsberg. I attended OCS with him in the summer of 2002. I remember quite well meeting him on the first night of our summer there. We had racks right next to each other. He instantly made an impression on me as a person I needed to study to become a good Marine Officer. Filled with knowledge, he was always willing to look out for those around him. More than once he offered guidance through those six weeks, and I am eternally grateful for the leadership role he played for all of us while we were there. He was recognized instantly at OCS, not only by the staff for his "Superman-like" qualities as a runner, but also by those around him, as a person who will undoubtedly succeed as a leader. I met him again at TBS a year later where he was a class ahead of me. Again, he instantly struck me as the person I wanted to be. He gave me pointers on running, as well as countless tips on succeeding at The Basic School. He had so many admirable qualities, not only as a Marine Officer, but principally as a great person. When I checked into Camp Pendleton, there he was again, only this time as a featured runner in a news clipping hanging at the gym here at Main side Camp Pendleton. Your son seemed to follow me wherever I went, and I am deeply thankful for it. He will be greatly missed by all the marines who he came into contact with as a great Marine Officer and a natural leader.

Semper Fidelis,

2ndLt Mick Conlan

Dear Paul and Arlene:

I am so sorry to hear about Michael and so proud of what he had accomplished in his life. You must be very proud and very sad. Michael was a great kid so I am sure he was a fantastic man. I remember all the ball games. My thoughts and prayers are with you. We don't always understand why things happen, but your son was definitely a very positive person and brought a lot into this world even as a child. God Bless you and help you in this hour of grief. Love, Brenda Marshall, Precious (Tami Marshall) Johnston and Frankie Marshall.

Precious "Tammy" "Marshall" Johnston

October 23, 2004

Mike played baseball with my brother, Frankie, at Palm Springs Rec. Center, and I've never forgotten him. I remember him as being so steady and reliable. There was one baseball game when we about twelve where the winning run was all on his shoulders and there was a full count. He seemed so composed that no one even knew he was bothered until he hit himself in the head repeatedly (he was wearing a helmet) with the bat as if to say, "Okay Mike, stay focused." I also remember a night he and another teammate spent the night with my brother. Every five minutes I was opening my door to tell the three of them to be quiet because I couldn't sleep, but when I would shut the door again I couldn't help but smile because I had never heard him laugh so much and so loud. I think this is the memory that I will keep closest. Mike and I were also at the same high school (he was a year ahead of me), and I remember how proud I was of him whenever I heard another announcement about his track winnings, especially because I knew how modest he would be about it. I can honestly say that when I heard the news from my father, I couldn't believe the sense of loss that I felt and how unfair it all seemed. I can't ever remember being so devestated by someone's passing when they weren't a close relative or someone I'd spent a lot of time with. I think this says more any other words ever could. Paul and Arlene, my prayers are with you.

We are grieving with you in the loss of Michael. Based on all of the great things that have been said about Michael you can take great, great pride in how well you raised him and provided guidance to him.

We remember well all the reports through the years of his interests, successes and his determination to succeed at whatever he was involved in.

We share your pride in how well he served his country. His loss has left a mark on all of us and makes us appreciate once again how our freedom has been won.

His grandparents were obviously a great influence on him and they also did a great job in guiding him to develop the character and have the personal principles by which he lived.

We have appreciated your friendship over the years and now ask God to give you the comfort necessary to get each of you through this very difficult time.

" To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift"

Steve Prefontaine once said this and I think this describes Mike to the letter. Mike always gave his 100% in anything he did, he wasn't the greatest runner but he sure trained harder than any runner I ever saw. He always had a gentle word to say and always willing to give a helping hand. I presonally never really got to know Mike on a one to one bases. But even the few times I met him I could tell that there was something special about him. Mike touched the lives of many people that mean the world to me, for that I am glad that I got to meet him. MIke always tried to do better, nothing was impossible for him. That is a quality you rarely find in a person. What mike had in his heart was god given, it's not something that you can teach or learn. To Mike's family, my prayers go out to you, hold your head up high. mike may not be here in body but he will always be here in spirt and in the hearts of all of us. To my teammates, I want you all to know that I have never forgotten about you, and remember that there is always a rainbow at the end of every strom. All of you will remain in my heart and mind forever. Though Mike is gone he is not forgotten.

" To mike, thank you for giving me inspiration"

May you be comforted by God. May you be comforted by knowing that your precious son died doing what he loved to do and what he wanted to do. May you be comforted by knowing that there are many who sincerely appreciate his service and his sacrifice for our country.

Remember me in quiet days

While raindrops whisper on your pane.

But in your memories have no grief,

Let just the joy we knew remain.

Remember me when evening stars

Look down on you with steadfast eyes.

Remember if once you wake

To catch a glimpse of red sunrise.

And when your thoughts do turn to me,

Know that I would not have you cry.

But live for me and laugh for me,

When you are happy, so am I.

Remember an old joke we shared;

Remember me when spring walks by.

Think once of me when you are glad

And while you live, I shall not die.

To the family of Michael Felsberg,

May God bless and give you peace, and comfort your hearts during this time.

My son was a marine and served in Desert Storm. During his time there my heart ached but I was very proud of him. I am also very proud of your son for the great service he did for our country.

Be Blessed,

Juanita

Paul and Arlene;

Know that I shed tears when I read the PB Post article. I only wish that I could have been at FIU to see, first hand, the out-pouring of love for Michael. As so many have already said, he was your son and a hero. To Michael and others like him we owe our freedom. God bless him!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this trying time.

I AM NOT THERE ~ Hopi Indian prayer

Do not stand at my grave and weep;

I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn's rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush

of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry;

I am not there, I did not die.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your son. He sounded like a wonderful young man. He most certainly is one of God's newest angels. May your happy memories of him help you find peace in the days ahead.

One of my friends was Mikes roommate at FIU. While I attended college in Virginia, I came down to visit my buddy and stayed at Mikes apartment around Thanksgiving time. I had such a great time visiting FIU that Mike told me that I was going to end up coming to FIU one day as a student. I told him there was no way but always rememebred what he told me. I am a fellow student athlete like Mike, and when I decided to transfer the following school semester, when I chose to come to FIU I saw Mike before he left and he said "see I told you so."

You're the man, Mike.

Dear Mr & Mrs Felsberg:

I remember Mike from our Christmas Eve dinner parties, always laughing and his face all red from my question every year: "Mike, are you single?" "Yes." "So am I, I would reply." The first time, being the gentleman that he was he wasn't sure if I was serious until I started laughing. The second year he was ready for me,as soon as I asked him the question he started laughing knowing already what was coming. There will always be a place at our table for him.

What a wonderful gift to have a son like Mike and share him with the rest of the world. I can only imagine how proud of him you are, the world is a better place because he was in it.

He will always be in our hearts and prayers.
