Hello,
We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of William M. Amundson Jr. US Army Corporal.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

Cpl. Amundson, a long held SALUTE with tears in my eyes and sadness in my heart for your family, loved ones, friends and those who served with you. I found you through once again looking back at 2 of my favorite Marines - LCpl Garrett Gamble KIA 3/11/10 (Sugar Land, Texas) and Sgt. Adam Cann KIA 1/5/06 (He has my heart). You are a hometown boy and from this moment you will now be one of mine that I will NEVER FORGET. I leave you for now but I will be back. LEAD THE WAY Cpl. with much respect, as for me it will always be SEMPER FI, of course....

This man is my cousin William M. Amundson. He fought for his county and his family. He was the greatest soldier I've ever known. When he passed, thats whenever the thought came into my head about the military. Eight years later I had already signed my contract for the exact same thing he did. Due to certain events that were cause by my own stupidity I could not ship out. Never will be able to, but I pray every night for a big war that they start the draft back up. Sorry Little Bill, but I'll make you proud in other ways

God has granted me with the privilege of somehow connecting with this fine young man. I first found out about Bill after I heard that the local VFW Post which I had joined is named in his honor.
I then found out that they did not yet have an actual Post facility. I am trying to help them fund an "actual" facility worthy of bearing his name.
Thank you to everyone for assisting me in helping the VFW. In doing so, I realized that I was NOT helping the VFW, but working for a power far greater than them - The memory of a Brother In Arms. Thank you all.

Bill - I am humbled to be able do my part in honoring the fortitude of your spirit, ensuring the flame forever shines bright. If there were only a way to have been able to meet you in this life time. You have touched the lives of more people than I have ever seen, and your passing seemed to bring them closer than before. I do not pretend to know you, nor your friends or family, but I can tell how proud they all are of you, and how much they miss you. It must have been coincidence, but I was in Iraq from May 04 until Oct 07, and went through similar stressors. As I carefully research your life, I often feel a comforting presence and think that it may be you watching over me, making sure you get to put your two cents in during my speech. I am humbled. I am honored. I passed over in 2003, though was revived. I sometimes think that I know what it's like in Heaven, and long to return; though I never made it that far. I was still enroute when I was revived. Carried under the wings of an Angel. I have so far met your Mom and Dad, and spoken to Carlos over the phone. I also got to speak with one of your previous SFC's, now MSGT. He said something about you putting them through the ringer one last time by flying you all over the place before you allowed them to put you to rest. He also told me about one certain parachuting incident where you were yanked over three hills after you had made your landing...the winds picked you back up and dragged your parachute before letting you go. He said that you both got one heck of a laugh out of that. I've been so close on so many occasions, though never try to attempt fate. I'll be old and gray by the time I get the pleasure of shaking your hand; though I hope to one day meet the man that could woo women just through his quirky smile....
I'll try to use it on my wife :).... speaking of...
My wife and I recently had the pleasure of having dinner with your parents. They shared some wonderful stories with us. We laughed and held back a tear or two as your folks shared a glimpse into the shimmering light of your life. and Thank you for guiding me.

Bill..guess what? Jacob turned 18 yesterday. Yep, I'm getting old:) He is signing on September 7th for the ARMY!! He will be stationed in Fort Benning. He will then proceed to move on up just as you did to being a Ranger. He will be going to Afghanistan at the tail end of it all. Isn't that awesome? I know you are excited. Just keep an eye out for him for me. He is honored to be there knowing you were there. He can't wait to see the plaque they made for you. Thanks Bill! You helped your cousin make a decision of a life time that will benefit him for the rest of his life. Especially knowing you will be by his side.

January 30, 2011
Bill, I have had to spend some time in jail...Unfortunately! God does everything for a reason. There was this lady. Her name was Tattoo. She developed a prayer circle every night. I was kinda shy on speaking at first. I no, your saying, "Not You!" But yes, I was. The last night I gave her my prayer book and told her that my nephew would want her to have it. She kept the circle alive just like you. You were there with me. Thanks Bill!! I will never forget how you got me through one of the toughest times in my life. Luv Ya!!!!

I guess I would consider myself Bill's pen pal seeing that we wrote to each other all the time while he was in Ranger school. I actually met his father Bill Sr. online first. I was doing a school report on Veterans of War and happened to come across this chat room full of active soldier's families. Bill Sr. and I hit it off pretty well and he soon started telling me all about his son who was about my age. He then asked me if I would like to write to him while he was in ranger school so I said sure and gave him an address so that Bill Jr. could write to me.
A few weeks went by and I completely forgot all about the conversation that I had had with Bill’s father. Then on a Friday morning my mother gave me my first letter from Bill. I opened it up and was shocked to see that it was from him. I honestly thought I would never get a letter and that the conversation that I had had with Bill Sr. was just another run in with a stranger online.
Well, that letter sparked over 1 ½ years worth of reply letters, phone calls and emails. Bill and I seemed to have a lot in common but the one thing I remember him talking about the most was not his truck but his father. He was always concerned with his father being lonely and asked me to talk to him during the weeks when he could not write or call anyone.
I did as he asked and had many wonderful conversations with his father. He would always give me fatherly advice when I needed it and I started to feel a strong connection with him. He told me once that he missed hearing Junior call him dad. So I made sure to call him dad whenever we wrote or talked. He started to catch on to what I was doing and would even end his emails to me with a “Love, Dad”
When the attacks on September 11th happened I called Bill as soon as my professor cancelled our classes. We both knew that this day would affect him directly and I was worried for him. He continued to tell me that he would be fine, that he was not scared, and that it he felt like this was his purpose in life. Not once did he ever sound afraid. I remember specifically telling my mother that he seemed so brave and because of that I was not afraid for him either.
I kept in contact with him all throughout his first tour in Afghanistan and throughout his second tour in Iraq. But slowly, little by little our letters and phone calls became less frequent. I don’t feel as though we were sick of talking to each other or that we had run out of things to say. I just felt like our lives were both going in separate directions. However, that did not stop me from thinking about him every once in a while and I still have not.
I took a trip to Washington DC two years ago during the July 4th weekend and I made a special trip to Arlington National Cemetery so I could say thank you and good bye to my dear pen pal. We always talked about meeting each other someday but I near envisioned it to be under these circumstances.
I remember getting the email from his father telling me that Bill had passed. I was so upset and I cried my eyes out for days. There was one thing that really helped me get through my time of mourning though and it was that dreaded final email. I just couldn’t believe that his father had the kindness and strength to even write me that message so soon after the tragedy. I then looked at that email as a sign of strength and it gave me comfort because I saw where Bill had gotten his bravery from. He got it from his Dad.
Bill had come into my life because of that chance meeting with his father in a chat room and he had also left my life through that final email from his father. I still have every letter and photo that Bill sent me and I cherish every memory I have of him. I would love to speak with his father again because I feel as though Bill would want me to continue my friendship with him. He loved his father very much and I’m sure he’s watching over him from heaven.
Dad,
If you’re out there please send me an email. I would love to hear from you and there is so much I want to tell you. You can reach me at [email protected].

Dear Bill,
I remember the day I found out you passed away...Brittany and I had vaguely talked to you about 2-3 weeks earlier while we were in X2 school. I held her so close because I knew she was hurting so bad that you were gone. But she made it thru X2 and got to see you one last time. I heard you looked just as handsome! I never got to meet you in person, but I have to say that you truly were an impact in my life. I have lost 22 Family, Friends, and Soldiers that have been serving in this war...you're included to the blessing that I at least known of you. I know you're looking down on us all.
Take care Bill...I'm sure your truck still looks sweet;-)

Bill, I've been having a really hard time lately. I can't believe it's been almost five years, and I still have hard days, days where I still can't get my head around the fact that you aren't here anymore. I still have the beads witht the texas flag on them, hanging from my fan like they did yours, our stuffed animal sits on my desk, and your KIA bracelet has never left my arm. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you, and whenever I'm having a really hard time with it, somehow "beautiful mess" comes on, and I know you're letting me know that it's ok. I still love you with all my heart and I'll be stopping by to see you in October. Can't wait to see you again and eat some wendy's with you :)

Bill,
So I got married back in Feb, and for the wedding, we had to go through old photos from our childhood to present at the reception. Even though you aren't here, I made sure you were at my wedding!
I called up Uncle George and asked if he would bring over some farm pictures...and he brought over a whole backpack of pictures! Boy did we have some good times!!! I think my favorite picture was the one of you and me on smokey. Do you remember going out to the field to catch him? And then fighting to get the bit in his mouth?! haha! Those were some good times.
We also found pictures of you pushing me around the circle drive on the red toy tractor, and pictures of us on the john deere riding mower...and playing on the big hay bails. I looked forward to EVERY summer you came down, and I regret SO much that we grew apart as we got older.
I miss you! Thank you for protecting us. You will never be forgotten.
Love,

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know William, but I am remembering

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I have just learned of the death of Corporal William A. Amundson, Jr. As the State Chaplain of the Georgia Sons Of The American Revolution and speaking for our President, Charlie Newcomer, III and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia, may I most humbly express the condolences of a grateful Society. Corporal Amundson, wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… his family!!!

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Bill brought light into my world. I was young when he was born but got the privilege to baby-sit him. I was 10 and had no idea what I was doing. At 16 I took him to Crystal Beach for the day. I had no idea what we were in store for. I gave Bill his 1st beer according to him. At the end of the night when my mom had to drive him home for me, he looked at me and said, "Aunt Brenda, this is one of the best days of my life!" I knew I was in trouble......but now it was worth it to hear those words!!!! Bill I'm glad you had fun!! I love you and will never forget you until you meet me.

My heartfelt sympathy to the Amundson family in the loss of William. I did not know William, but my heart is broken and I am saddened for your loss of such a fine young person and hero. May God bring you peace in your heart as you reflect on all the wonderful memories you hold so close. Please know that you are in my heart and prayers. Dear Michele Sanderson
I would also like to express my sympathy for the loss of your son. Sometime I feel like no one seems to understand this terrible pain I feel every day. But today I receive your cards and books and I know I am not in this pain alone. I know God will help us through this. It has almost been 1 month since I lost my Ranger PFC. Damian James Garza and it seems to hurt more every day. I have to be strong because I still have a younger son at home who needs me. Our family was very close and this has been hard for us. Our sons were brave and strong heros, and so we Ranger Moms must be strong too. From one Gold Star Mom to another, my prayers are with you and your family. Take Care and God Bless you.

I want to say first of all how proud of this young man and I'm so very sorry for his families loss. I want the family to know that I am very proud of each and every person who fights for our rights here and gives us the freedom to live like we live. I have a brother right now serving in Kwait and I worry each and every day for him and everyone over there. I want to say that you have a very special place in my heart and thank you very much.

He helped me in so many different ways and showed me that I was worth loving, just the way that I am. I know I have thanked you before Michele, but I'll keep doing it until the day I see him again. Thank you...and thanks to everyone else in the family for helping to raise him to be so perfect.
I Love You & Miss You Bill!

Granny's Poem
Bill was a proud Ranger
Who fought terrorism and died.
I can't stop my tears,
I've cried and I've cried.
Let me see him once more,
Let me enjoy his smile.
Please give him back
For a little while.
God answered my prayer,
He said, "Trust in my will
Heaven is waiting
That is when you'll see Bill."
I trust you dear Lord
Still my tears flow.
I love my sweet grandson
And I miss him so.

I was in charge of Admundson, and was there with him...He knew his job very well, and it was great to have him on my team. He is missed on a daily basis, and I think of him ever time I look down at the metal band on my wrist.

I was a resident of The Woodlands at the time of his death. I remember the profound loss the comminity felt. My prayers are still with the family and buy all reports your loss will be significant.
My son was deployed to the region at the same time and I was so aware of the tradic consequences a family can go through at this type of loss.
I know you know there is a Light and He will guide you through the darkest of times you face in dealing with your grief.
All I can say is thankls for your service and know he isn't forgotten.

Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for Bill, Michelle, and the family of Little Bill. I did not know him as an adult but he is fondly remembered as a child when I had the pleasure of being a part of his life for a short time. He was no doubt an angel the Lord had sent to do his work. He will never be forgotten. You are in my prayers.

Dear Michele, Mark, Megan & Taylor . . . and to the extended family of Cpl. William M. Amundson,
We grew up together Michele, and to me, the passing of 'little Bill' has been very hard on me knowing the pain and sorrow you must be feeling through this very difficult time of losing your son. I had not seen him since he was a young boy and was so proud to know he chose to serve our country with great honors. In attending the beautiful service' in honor of Cpl. Amundson, the strength and courage you and Mark exhibited while reading one of his last letters was very inspiring and amazing. Now I know where 'little Bill' got his courage!
Love you guys and miss you very much, Paul Hansen
