John Trotter Obituary

JOHN BYRON TROTTER was born on October 6th, 1979, the son of Susan and Clayton Trotter. After graduating from high school in Blanco, TX, he enlisted in the Army infantry. He was posted in Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Guard and performed duties such as guarding the Tomb of the Unknowns, guarding the President and White House, and burial ceremonies at Arlington National Ceremony. He also served in the Pentagon, and after 9/11, became a rescue worker performing mortuary duty while going through the ruins. After his initial 4-yr commitment, he re-inlisted and was posted in Korea. There he served for one year, until his division was sent to Iraq. During a patrol in Ramada, his squad took small arms fire and he was killed. John is survived by his son Austin, father Clayton, and his siblings- Frederick, Susan, Frances, Ricky, Alma, and Jasmine Trotter. He will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery in addition to a memorial service that will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Methodist Church in Houston at Main and Clay. In lieu of flowers please send donations to John Byron Trotter Scholarship Fund at The Justice Foundation, 8122 Data Point Dr., Ste. 812, San Antonio, TX 78229. Donations will go toward the Education of Austin John and children of the Veterans.

I ran across your pictures today. When you and Jarrod came to see me and we went to Lake Tahoe. I just sit there and cried. Can still remember the last conversation we had when you're were in Korea. I'll never stop missing you and I'll never forget you. Thank you

This is John Byron's Dad. I have on good authority that Byron is alive in Christ. For to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord!

Blessings on all those that keep his memory alive. The memory of the righteous is blessed. I Bless the memory of my Son, John Byron Trotter

We receive a notice each time a post is made to John's page. I immediately read it and find love and caring pouring from the hearts of those who wrote. John's short life has encouraged all of us to embrace our moments and to appreciate our freedoms. May we never forget this brave young man and all others for their sacrifice for us and our country. Thank you, thank you.
John is now joined by his grandmother, Fran, who adored him. My prayers and thoughts will not cease for the Trotter family and all who have lost their loved ones on the fields of battle. Lovingly, Judy McCleary-Houston, TX

In Memory of John ~ (Debra Estep)

November 13, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know John, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I was also part of the "recovery effort"(as they so brazenly named it) at the Pentagon with E. Co. I knew Trotter and had the pleasure of hanging out with him. Although we weren't necessarily close friends, I still feel saddened by his passing, but also proud to say that I knew such a hero. To Trotter's family and friends, may God bless you with peace and strength.

I was searching the web today while at work. I decided to face my past and look up the bravest man I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Although it has been so long since that unfortunate day, the memories are still so very fresh in my mind. John's brave action's on that day have continued to inspire me till this day. I try to live my life as happily as possible in honor of John. His passing touched everyone's heart in our platoon in a very significant way, not just mine. Although we all were always very close friends, after John's passing we became a very strong, close knit family. I continue to cherish the precious memories I have of John during our time we served together in Korea and in Iraq. It truly was a privilege and an honor to have served with John. I will forever remember him. I'm sorry for your loss and the pain it must bring, my only hope is that you know how much he meant to his platoon, and how he inspired us to be a strong family. Thank you for raising such a great man. 1-503rd inf.

Today I randomly stumbled upon this Memorial, while using the internet as a business networking Tool.

I have stopped my day as my consciousness joins the Trotter family and considers the horrible loss of this loved one. I was a soldier, and have an understanding of what John did and what he must have meant to those around him. I'll honor his memory tonight as I put my children in bed, and pray that you know that this touching memorial has given me pause to relish life. I wish you a long one.

John Byron Trotter was a good friend. I served with him in the Honor Guard from 1998 to 2000. He was with me in New York City when I met the women who would become my wife. We were the same age and had our sons around the same time. He was a good man. My wife was pregnant with our second son when I heard the news. We gave him the middle name "Byron" because thats what I always called John, and when my son asks me where his middle name came from I will proudly tell him all about the man he got it in honor of. He was a hero and I will never forget him. It has been over a year and he is still in my thoughts and prayers everyday. He will not only be remembered by his family, by all the lives he touched including mine and my family.

John it has been 17 months since you were taken. You are a hero and you will never be forgotten.

I send each of you a hug from the most inner part of my heart.

Today I wept at the Memorial Service for your John Byron and gave thanks for a fine, young man who was raised with such values and loved his country so that he gave his life for our freedoms. I have known his Grandmother, Fran, for years and remember the day she celebrated his birth and feel we are all extended family as she would tell us stories about her special grandchildren over the years. As "God Bless America" was played, I thought of John Byron's dedication and service. I could picture the 8 year-old John you described, Clayton, who always wanted to be a soldier, so surprised pay was involved for a passion he would have gladly volunteered for. We are truly blessed to have men such as he, who are raised with a sense of responsibility for our nation. May God hold your family tightly in His arms. My prayers are with you.

Lovingly, Judy McCleary
