To the family of Sgt. Kelley Courtney,
Today my boss sends us this photo with a text- "Its been 19 years today".
I understand that remembering and horning him does not replace him here with you all. I hope you find some comfort with, that he is not forgotten nor is his family he left behind. The man in this picture (USMC) prays for you guys everyday. He is a school administrator who shares Sgt. Courtney's story with our students as a reminder of his sacrifice.

To the family of Kelley, I never met your son and brother but I see a photo of him everyday in my team room and wonder constantly what he would have been like to work with. He is smiling in every photo ive ever seen of him. I have the same job Kelley did and work in a building named after him. Ive been thinking of him recently as Memorial Day is nearing. His sacrifice will never be forgotten. Semper Fidelis and God Bless.

Cindy, I wanted to let you know that I talked a little about Kelley at a Memorial Day service today here in California. I was asked to be a guest speaker and Kelley was a part of my speech. I am not a professional speaker, but I hope that I did Kelley and his family proud. I know it might be hard for you to watch, but I felt that you should know that he is not forgotten. I hope that it is OK with you that I talked about Kelley, but I wanted his story to be told. I may have been a little off on some facts since it has been so long, but I tried to retell everything as I remembered it. My Aunt recorded the speech, so I may be able to obtain a copy for you. As soon as it is available, I will let you know. Thank you.

To the family of MC SGT Kelly L. Courtney;

I had the honor of wearing your father, husband, son, brother, and friend's name over my heart this week. As a DOD civilian we were each given the name of a fallen patriot to wear and honor this memorial week. I just wanted you to know that someone else is out there, thinking of his and your sacrifice, grieving with you and grateful for his courage. I didn't know him, but I learned his story and will remember him. His personal story resonated with me as I also was a CI officer and his story could have been mine. I'm so very sorry for your loss.

With much respect, Sarah

Bobby, Gena, and family,
Though we haven't been in touch I think of you and Kelley often. I will make sure his memory will live on. My children will know of his bravery and willingness to serve. I'm reminded of a conversation with Bob D. many years ago about Gena giving a name to Kelley as she was being wheeled out of the hospital with him in her arms. Dwell on those happy times. Just know that your relatives in south Georgia love you.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Even though to some he just went and fought for his country he also left his name there. And that is more than anything. I am sorry!

My thoughts turned to you last week and I hoped and prayed that your family was able to find comfort in Kelley's legacy - his children, and the wonderful memories you must have of him. You sent me a copy of a poem Kelley wrote and it really touched my heart. My son knew Kelley, and thought he was a good man and a good Marine. He was deeply saddened by his death. Dear Courtney Family,

I only knew Kelley for a short time, but I will remember him always. I was a member of the 31st MEU this last time out in Iraq. Kelley and I got to know each other on the U.S.S Essex. Our bunks were right next to each other. He often talked about his family and how much he missed you all. Kelley was kind, intelligent, and had a great sense of humor. I was shocked to hear what happened. I hope you can take solace in the fact that the MEU was successful in it's goals. Kelley worked long hours to ensure that our infantry Marines had an accurate picture of the situations they would face. I'm sure he saved the lives of many of his fellow Marines. We will all miss him.

Sincerely,

Dear Gena,

I just learned this evening about your loss, and I wanted to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. I was speaking to someone about your art class and she knew who you were and told me about Kelley. I know that no words I can say will ease your pain, but although you are not aware you actually helped me through a very difficult time in my life during my first painting class with you. I had just lost my only brother two weeks prior to the class starting and I had almost decided not to come, but after the first night I knew I belonged. Thank you for that, and I wish I could do the same for you. Sincerely, Angie

Fallen, Not Forgotten
Lyrics by Ray Boltz

He stood beside his Daddy
And watched the soldiers marching by
It was Veteran’s Day and he wondered
Why there were tears in Daddy’s eyes.
Later they laid flowers
Beside a monument of stone
He said, My Daddy went to fight
And didn’t make it home.

Fallen, not forgotten
He was a hero
He stood so tall
And forever we will remember
With honor and glory
He gave his all

They left behind their families
And the towns where they were born
For the rice paddies of Vietnam
And the sands of Desert Storm
They were soldiers in Korea
And world war one
And world war two
They paid the price
Some gave their lives
And they fought for you and me.

Fallen, not forgotten
He was a hero
He stood tall
And forever we will remember
With honor and glory
They gave their all.

Now freedom is a blessing
But freedom has a price
And we must remember those
Who paid it with their lives.

Remember the fallen,
Not forgotten
They were the heroes
Who stood so tall
And forever, we will remember
With honor and glory
They gave their all
Fallen, not forgotten
They were the heroes
Who stood so tall
And forever we will remember
With honor and glory
They gave their all.

I REMEMBER AND WON'T FORGET! God bless you and your family.

Dear family and loved ones of Precious Sgt Kelley Courtney:

Please accept the sincere condolences of my family in the loss of your dear Kelley. We are heartbroken that this young man has lost his life after sacrificing so much in service to our nation. We are grateful to him and owe a debt that we know can never be repaid.

We ask the Lord to hold Kelley dear to Him as Kelley now sits at His right hand in Heaven. We have pride in knowing that Kelley holds a place of honor as he now guards the streets of Heaven with his fellow Marines. We ask the Lord to hold your family in His loving arms and that He provide you with the comfort that comes from Him. We ask for peace of mind for you and your family.

We know that Kelley is joined by the Marines that have already entered Heaven, and those that entered with him from these times. As they gathered and realized they all had the same orders, I am sure they smiled at each other for a "job well done" here on Earth and looked forward to the new duty station that the Lord has set aside for them, and them alone. None of them entered the gates alone and that, I hope, provides you some measure of comfort.

Please know that families across this nation and beyond are keeping your beloved Kelley, and your family in our prayers now and forever.

Our hearts are saddened by your loss of Kelley. We have never met him, but just knowing that one of our heros has fallen, causes us to feel a loss also. It must be such a difficult thing for loved ones to have to go through and I pray that you will receive the peace and Grace that you need at this time. I know that your son had to be a very fine young man to stand up for his country for freedom and for the protection of his own loved ones along with all the rest of us, and we give him the honor he deserves.

God Be With You,

Rod and Frankie,

We are so sorry about Kelley. Joey was so good to be there for Valerie and the rest of our family when our father passed away in August so I wanted to express our gratitude as well as our deepest sympathies. I am sure you are so proud because he must have been a courageous young man. I am amazed every day at the strength and courage of our young men and women in the military. We are all grateful for their sacrifices as well as the sacrifices of the families they leave behind. God bless you.

To the family of Kelley Lance Courtney:

Because of the sacrifice made by your loved one and many others like him, my family and others all across this great nation can lay down and go to sleep tonight in the "land of the free and the home of the BRAVE." Their sacrifices do not go unnoticed and will never be forgotten.

May God bring you peace and comfort during the difficult days ahead.

Sincerely,

P.Wilkes (Proud daughter of a recently deceased Marine)

He Gave The Ultimate Sacrifice

Although I never had the honor to meet your Marine,

I just know and feel it in my heart that his life was serene.

He Gave The Ultimate Sacrifice

As your son grew up from an infant to a toddler to a teen,

I think he knew deep within his soul that he would become a Marine.

He Gave The Ultimate Sacrifice

You will never forget the day your son left for MCRD boot camp,

It was a roller coaster ride for thirteen weeks, but your recruit survived as a champ.

He Gave The Ultimate Sacrifice

He proceeded on to infantry training and school,

He knew that what he had trained for would be his greatest tool.

He Gave The Ultimate Sacrifice

Next your Marine would find out where he would be stationed in the Corp,

It would be a big step in his life not knowing what was in store.

He Gave The Ultimate Sacrifice

That day of deployment arrived and your Marine started his quest,

He fought for freedom and was put to the test.

He Gave The Ultimate Sacrifice

Yes, your Marine fought so we could have freedom in our life,

Yes, your Marine gave his all in a time of world strife.

He Gave The Ultimate Sacrifice

Your Marine is guarding the gates of Paradise now all dressed in his blues,

So handsome, so proud and One of the Few.

He Gave The Ultimate Sacrifice

I wish I could have known your son so I could have thanked him face to face,

Yes, He laid down his precious life for the whole human race.

He Gave The Ultimate Sacrifice

Your Marine is now proudly guarding the gates of Paradise,

Yes, your brave, courageous son paid the most honorable price,

He Gave The Ultimate Sacrifice

To the Family of Kelly Lance Courtney

I am sending you a poem,

to help remind you of the

beautiful memories you have of Kelly.

I pray for your family

and the loss you have suffered.

The Tide Recedes

The tide recedes,

But leaves behind

Bright seashells on the sand.

The sun goes down,

But gentle warmth

Still lingers on the land.

The music stops,

And yet it echoes on

In sweet refrains...

For every joy that passes,

Something beautiful remains.

To the Family of Sgt. Kelley Lance Courtney,

I want to convey my heartfelt condolences to you regarding Kelley’s death. Words are so inadequate at a time like this, but I hope you find some small measure of comfort in knowing that many others also are grateful for his service, share in your sorrow, and realize the sacrifice Kelley has made for our country. In time, I pray you will be able to find some peace. Please know that your Marine family across our nation is praying for you.

I am appreciative of Kelley’s service he gave to the United States Marine Corps and to our country. I am grateful to him for loving his country and for his courage, honor and commitment to protect our freedom and people. Kelley’s choice to be a Marine speaks volumes of his character, grit, and determination.

Sgt. Kelley L. Courtney is another of America’s young heroes. While I didn’t know him personally, I feel like all of our marines are part of an extended family and want you to know his courage and valor will always be remembered in my heart and home.

Kelley was I’m sure, a shining example of honor and courage.

With love, hugs, and prayers,

Anne Bell, Mother of 2 Marine sons, Georgetown, Texas

Dear Cindy, Kellie Marie and Logan,

I am praying for you all. The word hero seems so inadequate in the face of such loss. But he is a hero. A father and husband who served his country and gave all. Those loved ones he left behind are heros as well. They pick up where he left off and live each day with the void his death leaves. I hope the void fills with the joyful memories of his love and devotion and that over time those precious memories bring more laughter than tears.

God Bless and Keep you close,

The Clark Family
